Internet Explorer (not responding) - Prevx SafeOnline BHO?

Well I'm going to put this out there and see...

Anyone else getting the infamous Internet Explorer (Not Responding) ghostly-white freeze-ups?

I'm going to assume for a minute that it's the SafeOnline BHO add-on. Why?
Just happened for the first time on this brand new build of a Vista Home Premium 32 system.
While IE was ghost-white and hung up with Internet Explorer (Not Responding) ON THE TITLE BAR, I also noticed that the Prevx tab (actually a SafeOnline tab) above the title bar was missing. It's supposed to be there in any IE window.

Microsoft basically blames any IE "not responding" error on either corruption in browser cache, cookies, temp files, etc, or one of the many add-ons & toolbars that people typically have. This is not regular and consistent, but I just reloaded this system minimally (new hard drive) and it happened while I had one instance of IE open (3 tabs). Coincidentally, I was writing to Prevx support in one tab when the freeze happened. The other tabs were Yahoo Inbox, and Wilders Forum.

I have been a regular user of SafeOnline since it was launched. I have also recently uncovered a stray conflict in Prevx which was acknowledged by support and in this board. All three systems in the household (similar configs) have experienced occasional IE not responding hangs. But this was the first on this new build.

Ok, so this is not actually a huge list. Adobe Flash & Reader; an HP all-in-one printer; Microsoft's own crap including Bing Bar; PREVX 3 with SafeOnline; Java; Norton 360 (my main security program); that's it! Also loaded but not present in IE is Windows Defender. All programs and updates are 100% up-to-date according to Secunia PSI (these are my 4 layers of security and I'm behind a router. I am 99% certain the system is clean of any malware.

Like I said, my biggest hint is the Prevx (SafeOnline) tab which sits atop the IE title bar. When IE stopped responding, the Prevx tab was not in view. I could spend a week disabling each and every add-on and toolbar but I'm not about to do that. Besides, this has happened once, and I'm also pretty sure it's not corrupted temp files, etc. I'm looking for an indication from PrevxHelp on what that missing Prevx SafeOnline tab might reveal, and looking to see if others who are using Prevx 3 / SafeOnline also experience Internet Explorer (not responding). I have used the Norton360 / Prevx / Windows Defender security combo since SafeOnline was created on all my systems. My main system was the one which flagged a recent Prevx3 bug, and it experienced a number of IE (not responding errors) over the last year or two. I am of course upset that this IE freeze happened on this new build, while I was well into another Prevx Support email - lost about 200 words and will have to start over on that one too! I typed this out in Notepad (just to be cautious). I also wish there was some kind of mini-dump log file that would identify the cause of these IE hang ups.

Could you also let me know if you're using IE8 or IE9? IE9 is not fully supported and could possibly have stray issues.

I'll be analyzing your scan log and should hopefully have some answers by tomorrow morning! (2am my time )

I had a similar problem. My IExplorer 8 could not even launch at all. It gave me an 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)' error. After almost a month of trying numerous forums, scans, driver uninstalls etc., I used procexp.exe to try and see at what point in launching Explorer it stopped and that's how I found out it was Prevx. When I disable Prevx my browser launches normally - the moment I enable Prevx I can't open a browser.

Well I've been absent from the forum for awhile since Prevx had been working for me Until I upgraded to IE9 Silly me.

I forgot what you said about IE9 not fully supported. Here's what happens to me with Prevx 3 / SafeOnline and Internet Explorer 9:

- Trying to open a new instance of Internet Explorer when I already have an IE window open will result in a frozen IE window. Strangely, the Prevx SafeOnline "tab" above the title bar was there, but the window, title bars, home page etc would simply stop loading.

- Usually the original window would keep working fine, until it was closed. Then I usually had the problem where no IE9 window would open properly.

- Opening Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) worked fine.

I assumed this was another Prevx SafeOnline / Internet Explorer issue similar to problems I had before (this topic actually). I completely uninstalled Prevx and my IE9 opens multiple windows without any problems.

I assume Prevx4 will be compatible with IE9. When can we expect Prevx4 ? I skimmed the 22-page "4.0 beta release date?" topic & it doesn't say much!

 

There could be components of your installation of IE9 that are not whitelisted in our database - could you send a scan log to report@prevxresearch.com to see if we can fix it?

(Also, we haven't yet disclosed information on the public release of Prevx 4 so you don't need to spend a week fully reading the entire thread )

Before I re-install Prevx and send you a log, can you confirm that your statement about IE9 being not fully supported is no longer valid?

 

IE9 is not 100% supported in that the browser tab shows on top of the browser instead of within the window, but it should work without a problem.
