Prevx SafeOnline and BF2 issue

Hi

Not sure if this has been asked before but I'm using the latest Prevx SafeOnline and when I connect to a game server in BF2, the game ends abnormally. I tried excluding the game dir and the Punkbuster files in windows\system32 but it still ends. Is there a fix for this issue? I know it's not a mission critical type but it's my favorite game and I really like this Prevx Safeonline pgm.

I'm running Win7 32 Home Premium.

Any help would be appreciated,

Have you tried to lowering the protection in PSO? Or if that doesn't work try turning PSO off to see if that works also you should send a scan log to Prevx as they might see something in your log to help with your problem! https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1662381&postcount=1

Thank you for the suggestions. I have tried lowering the protection and stop the monitoring but the game still crashes. I will try and send a scan log to them if I can figure out how.

Also try to disable Prevx and see if it still happens? I might not be a Prevx issue?

But how to send a scan log Click Tools in the GUI > Save Scan Results and send the log to report@prevxresearch.com.

Thanks. Only when I uninstall Prevx does the game work correctly. I tried reinstalling and the same thing happens. I'm pretty sure it has to do with Prevx SafeOnline, not sure why. I know BF2 uses punkbuster which has it's files reside in system32. This could be part of the problem as I believe Prevx might think there is some fishy business going on with the game. I will run a scan and send it to them. As I said earlier, I think this is a nice security tool for your browser. It seems to work great with MSE also.

Did you add the E5 temp file folder that Punkbuster places in the %temp% folder as an exception?

You also have to add pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrb.exe, both should be in your system32 folder. There is also a pnkbstrk.exe somewhere else, but I dont remember the location.

BTW whats your screen name? BF2 is also my favorite game.

 

Hmm I wonder if that's why my Bad Company 2 crashes on my desktop? I have the ATi HD5770 but It seems to be the driver issue.. Im going to try to uninstall Prevx SafeOnline and see what happens..

BTW i have it on my notebook(nvidia 9600m gt) as well with bad company 2.. no issue..

 

No, I did not add that to my exceptions. I have added the a and b file to the exceptions amd the BF2 game directory. The k file is a .sys and I forgot to add that as well. I will try tonight and let everyone know. Thanks for the reminders whitedragon.

Also, could you try lowering self protection from Maximum to Minimum? It's possible that the game's self protection could be conflicting with Prevx's self protection - let me know if that fixes anything!

 

Great News!!!!!! I excluded the BF2 program directory, the punkbuster files in the system32 dir and the punkbuster dir which is located under appdata\local\punkbuster for the user signed in and Bingo, no more crash. I have only tested a few times but I think this is the solution. I have Prevx SOL on Max settings also.

These are the directories and files that I have ignored or excluded in Prevx SOL to fix the connection issue I was having with BF2.

c:\windows\system32\pnkbstra.exe ignore
c:\windows\system32\pnkbstrb.exe ignore
c:\windows\system32\pnkbstrb.xtr ignore
e:\Program Files\ES Games\Battlefield 2 Excluded
c:\users\ice\AppData\Local\PunkBuster Excluded

I believe the last entry did the trick.

Where do you put these entries in? Im having some horrible lag in BF2 after switching from CISv4 to PrevX SOL and Immunet Protect Plus. Ive already added the exclusions to IPP.

EDIT- Nevermind. Think I found it.

 

Sorry to say this did not work. I am now thinking it might have something to do with MSE and Prevx SOL running together. Since Whitedragon is not having this issue using Avast5, I might give this a go.

My issue was Immunet Protect Plus. As soon as I switched to Avast with the file shield only all lag issues went away.

 

The plus version of Immunet is also meant more as a stand-alone AV, unlike the free version which is designed as a companion AV
The reason is the Plus version has the extra offline engine, deep scanning, archive scanning etc. which make it more use more resources.

 

One easy solution for me was to update Punkbuster in BC2. Solved all problems.

Really? Immunets employees say otherwise as does Immunets website.

 

I heard it during beta testing, the old forum is gone so I can't find an exact statement but I did find some indications:

 

The PLUS version of Immunet is not intended as side-by-side AV. The free version without the offline engine is however.

 

Thanks. Yes I have the latest Punkbuster version for BF2. The crashing seems to be with MSE and Prevx SOL. When I switched AV's to Avast 5 I do not see this crash. However, I'm still not convinced since this issue seems to be a moving target. I'll report back when I can get a more secure handle on this. I guess I find it hard to believe nobody has come across this crash while playing BF2 with Prevx SOL together. I think Prevx SOL gives a nice layer of protection and is extremely light running along any AV I have used.

I dont have the issue with PrevX. Im banking on your AV.

 

If it continues please send another scan log and the link to this thread to see if they can see something else that could be conflicting with BF2 & Punkbuster and the security that you are using!
