How do I make computer scan faster

When I used Zonealarm, it only took 35 mins to scan the whole computer while Nod32 takes almost 3 hours. But I really like Nod32 so is there anyway to make it scan faster?

Are your scan schedule and scanning targets configured correctly ?

 

yes it scan C and D drive just like zonealarm

 

Noting that ZoneAlarm and ESET software are not the same animal, thus the scanning protocols used will be different.

Follow the instructions given and report back your findings. Ensure that you have fully uninstalled ZoneAlarm

 

how fast should it take? I use up about 175 GB

 

I have two 250 GB drives, a full scan takes approximately 30 minutes.

 

I tried to set it to skip file bigger than 10 MB, it took 70 minutes.

 

Please submit a support ticket to ESET.

 

Maybe ESET supports more compression formats and thus scans inside more archives. Try disabling archives/sfx archives.

 

But it should be a real security gap because many of malware droppers are self-contained sfx archives.

 

do you have smart optimization checked? First scan might take a while, but subsequent scans should take FAR less time. Advanced heuristics in your settings will significantly increase your scan time.

 

I have found on machines with *.rar archive files, normal in-depth scan takes
a lot longer. Ran a scan this afternoon on a Vista machine, with numerous *.rar files.

Primary HD scan takes a good while to complete, would be handy to have an ESET KB explaining how to set a scan to initially skip these files at first scan then scan them later at user opt-in.

Future feature request, perhaps.

 

They still have to be extracted when they are getting loaded in to memory, and the real-time scanner is going to pick that up.
