Hitman Pro 3.5.5 BETA release notes

We decided to release a beta before releasing a new build to the public. This due to the huge list of changes in this build. We really would like some feedback on the new network stack. And also on how it is working in different proxy scenarios.

Here are the preliminary release notes 3.5.5 build 93 - BETA

    • Added Quick scan which only scans loading point locations and in memory objects.
You can choose Quick scan from the split button on the welcome dialog or specify /quick command line switch.
    • Improved the overall scan performance on systems that have an active on-access scanner.
    • Fixed a memory leak reducing memory consumption by 20-40MB compared to previous versions.
    • Replaced WinInet by WinHTTP network stack for internet communication. This allows more proxy options and also allows Hitman Pro to run under different accounts like SYSTEM. This is particularly useful in corporate situations.
    • Added Advanced tab under Settings allowing proxy configurations:
      - Use Internet Explorer settings (default)
      - Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Protocol (WPAD)
      - Proxy Automatic Configuration URL (PAC)
      - Manual proxy configuration
      - Proxy authentication
    • Added License tab under Settings.
    • Added Apply to all to the drop down menu of a detected item.
    • Added hyperlink to the finish page allowing the scan log to be exported as XML.
    • Added /ews command line switch.
    • Added /noupload command line switch.
    • Added /quick command line switch.
    • Added /debug command line switch. Use this switch to generate a mini dump if the program crashes.
    • Updated internal white lists.
    • Lots of minor internal changes.
The beta download does not install itself so you can run it along side build 92. Also the beta updates automatically to the non-beta version after 14 days.

I will post the link to the download of the beta shortly. Stay tuned ...

Update: You can now download the beta bits from here:
    32-bit: http://files.surfright.nl/HitmanPro35beta.exe
    64-bit: http://files.surfright.nl/HitmanPro35beta_x64.exe

I also started a thread on the Public Beta build here.

    wow:argh: quite a lot of changes:D

Thanks erik for posting this info

But I would like to ask the meaning of some command switches:
    # Added /ews command line switch.
    # Added /quick command line switch.

    What do they mean?

I hope that you can add some explanations for the command switches later:cool:

Also, I hope to test the beat asap.:D

I suppose those commans will trigger different scan settings: "/ews" (early warning scanning) and "/quick" (Quick scan, which was added in this beta)

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Could you please start HitmanPro35beta.exe with the command line switch "/debug". If Hitman Pro crashes, it will generate a minidump in the root of the boot disk (usually C:\). Please send this minidump to support@hitmanpro.com so we can analyze what happened.

    Example:

    HitmanPro35beta.exe /debug

Actually, it crashes upon finishing a scan and starting the close button count down. Sending dump...

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Just ran the Build 93 Beta and no problems on my machine. Scan took 2 minutes and 27 seconds (Build 92 took 3 minutes and 14 seconds). The quick scan took 41 seconds. Running XP Pro SP3, Intel Quad 2.33 GHz with 4 MB of RAM. Saved XML data and it was saved to My Documents, maybe be better saved Hitman Pro folder?

I sent the dump a few hours ago. I think it is caused by clicking cancel on an item being uploaded to the cloud.

    Erikloman:

Would you be willing to create either a portable version of Hitman Pro or an AV live cd that would do the job just as well?

I absolutely love Hitman Pro. I wouldn't mind paying for an extra license for the above mentioned.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Unlike most on-demand scanners, Hitman Pro is just an 5MB executable that can run from USB, CD or network share. Is there anything you need in particular?

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Beta 93 is warning on two files while the build 92 passes them as clean. Both probably are fp, but what could mean this "Upload failed" on regview.exe with no option box on right side of the file?
(btw RegView is an old and simplistic regkey viewer sitting on my pc from long time)
I run 2 beta scans with same result.

It is especially the Upload Failed we are interested in. The upload fails in both occasions :doubt:

Do you have a proxy configured or does Internet Explorer have a proxy configured?

I just ran the beta. Just wondering why it wants to connect to Google. Also, noted the SSM popups. See attached screenshots.

The only proxy used is Proxomitron, a local proxy, and I did not change the new proxy setting in HP.

    Thanks Jav for the explanation.

I think /ews means "early warning scoring" which I find under the "Next" button:D

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Hitman Pro performs a HEAD request to either SurfRight the Hitman Pro Scan Cloud or Google to determine whether you have a working internet connection. We tried several other schemes but making an actual request proves to be the most reliable way to determine a working internet connecton.

The SSM dialogs are triggered by Hitman Pro's rootkit watchdog discovery scheme. You should let Hitman Pro have access to the system otherwise it will have an impact on the behavioral scan results.

Haven't encountered any bugs on the 64-bit beta, GUI looks really nice.
Running realtime: ESET NOD32 4.2 and Windows Firewall and Defender.
Quick scan time: 30 sec, EWS and Normal scan time: 1 min 30 sec.
    No unexpected scan results.

Although EWS marks a NVIDIA driver as suspicious (EWS score: 6.0).

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I'm seeing a strange problem with the latest beta build. A scan identified 3 possible trojan files, which I removed manually (not using Hitman for removal). After rebooting, another scan with Hitman still shows the same three bad files. Multiple reboots and scans continue to show the same results. Scans with SAS and MBAM come up clean. It appears that Hitman is retaining the results of the first scan and since I didn't use it for removal, it is showing non-existant threats. o_O

Hitman Pro does not cache results. But I was wondering if build 92 also displays the trojans. Could you also post a screenshot?

    64-bit Winsock Repair issue fixed

FYI, I finally managed to fix the Winsock repair problem on 64-bit machines which was mentioned here. It was really hard to reproduced but thanks to Rein who provided the .REG files I managed to reproduce and fix!

Another beta (build 94) will go out today (both 32-bit and 64-bit). The final will either be released on Friday (or Saturday).
