There is no need to write like that. avast! 5 will take some more space on HDD, but as result of that, performance is significantly improved. Along with other technologies to speed up the scanning without compromising protection.

According to your signature you have 3 GB of RAM why do you think any AV will ever slow your computer?

    may i ask 2 questions?

    1) is fast like nod32?

    2) does avast open (to scan) jpg , tiff , pdf , and other not dangerous files? like avast 4

    thanks

Well, in the history you can see the effectiveness of the transiniant and persistant caching of executables/dll's (so they are excluded of on execute scan when they are not changed)

The scan stucks at 97 % when the webshield is installed. Maybe there is a known conflict with AVG LinkScanner? The scan works flawlessly when the webshield is deinstalled :doubt:

i think i read something on the beta forums about a conflict with Linkscanner so that COULD be it. i dont use linkscanner so that culd be another reason ive never had ur issue.

I agree but AVG Free is lighter on memory though :doubt: Yes, Avast has more protection shields and so on ...

I have testing them both, on two different machines. Avast5 averages between 22-38meg for me. AVG9 avg between 7-14. I have seen Avast get as low at what you showed for a brief period, but it is very rare, and does not last long.

Wow. I am also running Win7 32bit. What are you using to report usage? Task mgr or process explorer? I find task manager always shows lower than process explorer.

Also, do you have all the shields installed? How much does memory go up if you open a brower with a few tabs?

process explorer has similar results, only slightly higher, and i have File Shield, Web Shield, Network Shield and Behavior Shield installed and running, and in both those screenshots i had 6 tabs open in Firefox and in the 2nd i ALSO had a VM running.

Those are the shields I install also, not the IM, P2P, or mail. I will have to try changing my lineup. Maybe one of the other programs on my PC are causing Avast to use more resources.

    Wow i love the GUI.
    Few questions though....
The virus definitions says it needs to be updated but it then says its up to date? Bug?
Does disabling some protections like IM Shied, Mail, P2P Shield save some CPU? Or is it marginal?
Why is uTorrent unticked (default) in the P2P Shield? Incompatibility?
Any problems (many FPs) using high heuristic settings?
How good is the behavior shield? Something like ThreatFire?

    Thx for all.

These days memory usage should be of little concern to most users, cpu usage and disk read/writes are a far better gauge on performance.

Heres my usage so far according to task manager...

Computer has been on for about half an hour, most of that has just been browsing the net.
Currently have 4 tabs of Chrome open, using 32-bit XP and have the File Shield, Web Shield and Network Shield installed.

Only Avast Free and Avira Free have shown no/very little drag on my system's performance, although I haven't used the latest version of AVG.

Yes there is a bug with the updater. You are fine.
I would not disable any shields and my CPU is lower then with any other AV.
    Cant answer the utorrent.
I run high settings with no FPs.
Behavior shield is not active yet, but will be soon.
I would also suggest you visit their support forums for some really good information and the latest news.
