Advantages; It's one of the lightest AVs in real-time which is one of its great strengths. The updates are very small with files of only 3-4kB which is great for those of us still restricted to dial-up. Good virus, trojan, spyware and adware detection, strong heuristics and the unpacking engine is one of the best. Support which has been patchy in the past is now very good using the ticket system and a "My Dr Web" web page. The new Security Space version adds a few more modules like the HTTP scanner. Relatively cheap as well.

Disadvantages; Not many. I have not come across many false positives in several years of use but the on-demand scan speed can be very slow, particularly when making a "complete" scan. Recent tests at a number of sites have suggested a detection rate which is second/third tier compared to other AVs but I have never been infected at all and if you are running a layered defense and not relying solely on a blacklist scanner then it could be a good choice for your machine.

However, whether it will suit you or your machine is another question. I suggest that you trial it for 30 days and see how it fits in with your present software.

I see that you have been trying a number of AVs of late, so make sure that these are completely uninstalled ( not just disabled ) before you try Dr Web.

That pretty much says it all.

I bought it because it's light, trouble free, doesn't annoy me in any way, features some nice technology and updates very frequently.

.. and I didn't care about av-tests and detection percentages because I believe every known av with good reputation is capable of protecting.

It also has very good self protection (if not the best if we believe recent test results), so that's a "+" too.

Excellent point. I wish this attitude would be more widespread :) IMHO people should consider stuff like usability and how heavy app is to your system over pure detection %s.

+1. Even the test results, at the end, represent how a product scores against a malware collection of a specific tester. How this collection relates with the real world, is another story, that often people don't think about.

Before buying Twister, i was looking at Dr. Web, exactly because it was very light and had very good prices compared to the most "known" AVs. :thumb:

The only reason im not running it is due to the lack of vista 64 bit support but other then that it has many pros and few cons - definetly stands out of all em if like previous posters said you take test results with a pinch of ....

    this forum is biased!
Alot of pros, with very little cons.

As for detection rates, we have yet to see any test which tests drwebs technology.

The introduction of origins tracing in 4.44 and fly-code in v5 have yet to be tested, they also continue to improve their unpacking, with improvements arriving everywhere, so let's see what the future brings ;)

I get the feeling, and especially on wilders in the past few months, that more and more people are starting to see the damages causes by the current testing methods.

Personally, I'm waiting for the GUI now which should be introduced soon I think, and while it may not introduce new security, it should give a more professional look and more sales for the product, plus... It is long overdue :)

    @ people using Dr.Web

Does anyone noticed any conflict with some other security applications and how it's compatible to most used firewalls?

Depends if you need anti-spam, http-scanning or parental control. I'm not a child nor do I have children, my email is filtered by email service provider and I don't see http-scanning adding anything protectionwise. Therefore using the AV only.

Should be compatible, I've never had those problems with the AV only.

Well.. why not as long as they let you choose what modules you want to install. Then I would use the AV without HTTP scanning. :D

    Agree.

To the original poster, Dr.Web is well worth the price tag.

I've always found the standalone scanner to be useful during many cleanups, with an excellent detection rate.I've no reason to think the full AV will be any less so.

I've been using Dr. Web for the last 2.5 years and have been happy with it's performance and protection. I've found it to be rock solid stable and works well with other security programs on my computer. I've been running Dr. Web along side SuperAntiSpyware Pro (real-time) and a software firewall for months without an issue. No problems running stand alone anti-malware scanners either.

For me, Dr. Web provides a nice balance of performance/protection with great stability and reliability. It's also reasonably priced also.

It's updated multiple times a day including weekends and holidays.

Security space for the very reason risl says you don't need it: HTTP scanning. There has been some discussion of this in the past with examples given where it could come in handy. Of course it's value has been discounted in these same discussions as well.

I don't recommend and I think you need to reconsider. It's not the worst but you have a lot of better choices in the market: Avira, Kaspersky, F-Secure...

    Tiagozt,

To each person it's to decide whether or not he should: use Dr.Web, buy Dr.Web or he can use different program.

I don't think that you comments are based on objective opinion, but rather that from your point of view.

Have you installed Dr.Web? Are you using it for years? Do you have several computers and on each you have different AV's so by that you can tell that Dr.Web is bad or good.

I'm really surprised from reading your posts.
All you do for almost every single product is you say that: the products is not good, it's bad, should not be considered, not recommended.

You always seems that you recommend products that you are fond of: F-Secure (your favorite), Kaspersky and Avira.

And that's it. No more, no less.

I know that some products are performing better for some user and same products are performing worst.

I don't think that above three products (especially Avira and Kaspersky) are bad.But on contrary. I've tested only those two and that's why i'm saying this.

You have to understand one thing: Products are changing. For better or for worst. Whether you(or me personally) have used them at some point of time, those products are not given only once and that's it. You want to go with this product or with that product.

You probably know more about Av's than me, and for security general.
I see that you are active on different forums. You are submiting samples to companies and i respect that.

But you can't judge solely from response to yours submitions that products are good or bad.

    It's ain't right.

For god sake's man just look at your posts and think twice when you recommend or not recommend some product.

Some of your post make sense and you are probably right for them.

But, for most of your recommendations you are wrong.
