How is this anti virus? Nod32 expires in 10 days and I don't know if i'm going to renew my sub or get a new one. Any other suggestions are welcome. If not Dr.Web then what? I need something that will run well with my other apps.

I have been using Drweb for almost a year. It is a nice AV but I dont like the hourly scan of loaded processes, or rather the fact that you cant turn it off. It consumes almost all the cpu power for a minute or two. If you do something else that is CPU intensive the system comes to a crawl, at least in my machine.

Now I am trialing Bitdefender 10, Avast free and Antivir free to see which I am gonna switch to. So far I like all three , but Bitdefender has the advantage. Just a feeling.
I have used NOD32 in the past and can recommend it too. As with all the above mentioned AV´s NOD32 didnt interfere with other apps. Is there any AV´s out there that do have probelms with other apps btw? I cant remember I have ever encountered such AV, they have always played well with all other apps.

Assuming you have had no problems with NOD and have not been infected, why not stick with this AV, particularly when the new version is just around the corner.

    try the trial,

if your on vista, try the beta.

you will get some people who will question its detection, so i warn you before the fanboys rush in, drweb has always been around the 90% detection mark, but its improving.

but, drweb have been dramatically improving there detection in the past 2 months now, with 399 signatures added today, and its a sunday aswell.

april brought a 30% increase in signatures compared to march, so its all looking promising.

drweb will have no conflicts with anything, and its real-time protection and engine are nothing short of spectacular, with frequent '15kb max' updating of signatures), and its removal has always been 100% with my experience and most people i speak too aswell.

Ram and CPU usage are one of the best out there, and the program itself is only about 10mb to download and uses only about 10mb of your harddrive space, and all program updates come through the regular updates aswell.

Spam detection is awesome with frequent updates to its recent vade retro spam technology, definatly one of the best out there (AVG's spam solution is also solid)

version 4.44 beta has added some new features, and even new improved heuristics (they were never poor before, but now they are improved), and some other little features too. (some are still turned off in the beta, as far as im aware)

version 5 will be released this year, beta in a few months no doubt, bringing even more technologys and expections, a new GUI, a faster scan speed, and integrated quarentine and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Support is always fantastic and quick, although 'sometimes' the russian language translation can come across as sometimes agressive. :)

its all looking extremely promising right now for drweb and its fanbase.

Migrate to drweb from another av company, and recieve a massive 50% discount.

anyway, i hope this reply helps. :D

    good luck,

    C.S.J outta here

I am not a Dr Web basher, as I have been a licensed user for many years, but you cannot categorically state that ANY AV will not cause incompatibilities as all computers have a different hardware/software mix. Further, IME, uninstalls are not always complete.

Therefore, it is best to suggest as you do to test the program first on his system.

If you are going to trial other AV's, other lightweight alternatives to NOD and Dr Web include F-Prot, VBA32, AntiVir and KAV 6.

ok, for argument sake and to let the original poster know

... maybe, just maybe, there is a piece of software somewhere on the internet that will cause incompatibilities with drweb,

however, i have not found it. :D

give me a break blackcat *lol* , ive got a head rush after typing all that :D

tried to be as accurate as possible with it.

or what I ran into in the front end of the Dr Web beta, crashing that was somehow related to a bit of an OS glitch that only became apparent when I ran into other problems (with Acronis TI) and which was immediately resolved by an OS reinstall. Go figure.., sometimes the problems are extremely subtle and all but untraceable unless you do something like ship the PC to the vendor's site for hands on evaluation (which isn't about to happen for a $30-50 piece of software).

    @travellinman,
dr web is a decent antivirus and very cheap.
GUI may look like its from windows 95 but who cares its not like your gonna look at it all day.
the spider icon is kinda cool:D
in the end the choice is yours.
the best way to see if its works on your system and you like it to to do a 30 day trial of it.

Chris, I did not mean to criticize anything you posted on; it is just that I have seen too many examples of "completely compatible" software not working as it should.

Your list of Dr Web's strengths was spot on as usual ;)

I know this is not regarding the same Dr Web problem as described above, but for the sake of not creating too many similair threads I will just use this one.

I've been having a slight issue with Dr Web lately. It seems that whenever I activate the on-demand scanner I am prompted by SSM. (See the first image) It seems drweb32w.exe is trying to load a windows driver. It is often called pI1MLe11.sys, but it seems to, at other times' be random. If I allow this action, Dr Web does not look at it normally does. (See second picture) If I deny it then Dr Web "looks" fine. Is this normal? Any ideas?

New beta build of demand scanner Dr.Web use integrated Shield driver (dwshield.sys). Which Windows version are you use? In Vista it may not work yet.

Yeah, I understand about the beta. That's the version I currently use. I'm on Windows XP. I am a little concerned because the prompts I'm getting from SSM have no reference to dwshield.sys (that rule has already been created). These seems to be random temp files. Yet, Dr. Web, VBA32 and ESS (NOD32) all say that I'm clean.

its looks like the scanner is just using a windows driver, i really wouldnt worry about it, sure it would be nice to know why.... but

SSM and other such products, give warnings which only scare people. o_O

anyone else noticed the difference in scan speed since it changed from fast scan > express scan.

i mean since this update, the 'complete scan' scans ALOT ALOT more than the previous full scan, and obviously takes ALOT longer to complete, its almost too slow to believe now because its scanning sooo much.

to me, it looks like the fast scan as got faster, while the complete scan as gone slower, but its definatly scanning loads more files than the previous full scan, im not sure what i prefer, i really want the scan time to lower, its ridiculous at the moment, and even more so now.

this is on a dual core, 2gb ddr2 laptop aswell.

full scan on my current system before this little update was 36-39 minutes max, current scan is.... well, you will see.

i'll add some screenshots to this post as soon as its finished.

    1. fast scan > express scan (its now become faster......)

    http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/4b6218d0d6.jpg

    2. latest compete scan (its now become ALOT slower.... scanning ALOT more files is the reason)

    http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/0e7e101122.jpg

im pretty sure, over an hour for such a small amount on the laptop, knowing its a decent spec laptop aswell..... tut tut.

drweb dont seem to think this is slow, and think its fake, or that im telling porkys..... they really dont think other scanners are faster, at least not by much.

1hr+, comparable to nod32 7 minutes (on max settings for nod aswell)

they are almost too arrogant to believe me, but at least we are promised a faster scan speed for verson 5, i wait and hope..... really, i do.

The other day you said their support is "fantastic" and now you say they are almost "too arrogant". You also mentioned that because of the language barrier they can come across as "agressive" ? If this is the case why do you get all upset ?:D

I am not sure why ,for you, DrWeb is "too" slow but then again DrWeb is no Nod32.It's just Drweb.

well i dont buy an av because it has 'a fast scan speed'

their support IS fantastic,2nd to nobody.

but this has nothing to do with requests for improvments, or trying to get information about future releases, they seem to keep these under lock and key, and yes they do 'sometimes' come across as arrogant, due to the english used (language barrier)

i just think 1hr for 4.44 for 10.5gb is too much, not really complaining but i still want it improved.

all people find things they dont like, no product is perfect, and there is no harm trying to get them to fix it :)

Hmmm...I seem to recall a "certain somebody" over on the DrWeb forum that has commented a couple times regarding the lack of response/input by the DrWeb team...
