On the serious side, is this software just history or is there a path to the future? Even if Macrium now does quick restores, I think a lot of people still would prefer AX64 for its Ease of Use philosophy. Release the code under the GPL?

As far as i remember the last BETA before the last, now official, release was the best working one.
Anyone care to share a copy of that version?

Sure! How 'bout the initial ALPHA of v3... or if that doesn't work (like the rest of 'em), a greet over a cup of coffee (you're buyin') in your neighborhood? (I've missed our really cozy professional relationship... and that $.30 per hour for my Marketing hutzpa).

 

The problem with ALL the versions is they were very configuration dependent as far as success or failure were concerned.

v1.4.1.48 was the most successful HOT restore version (actually took place under your LIVE Windows System... it was the final v1 BETA). All v2 versions were either a WinPE restore or the later ones (from Build 643) used the NATIVE NT API interface during the BOOT up process. Personally, I had very mixed results from the beginning of v2 on... v1.4.1.48 was the most successful when using "simple" System configurations (Legacy-MBR) but some users still had issues depending on what software they were running.

The entire 3-1/2 year process was a bit of a crapshoot as far as success was concerned with ISSO providing reasonable guidance and direction during his tenure as project leader. Then there was an issue ( ) that caused him to move project control over to the Magnificent Seven in the Southern Hemisphere... it was at this point that things really went awry.

Isso, please don't laugh but I won't take offense if you do. I still use Ultimate Defrag 4 and have now installed it in Windows 10 and by golly it does enough of what I expect it to do and well for my systems with no real issues.

You played a huge part IMHO in introducing and bringing the impossible to the forefront over a Defrag App and I've never given up on it.

FWIW you are the sole reason I stuck with it and it looks pretty darn good on a 70 inch HDTV screen while running the blocks too.

I too actually use Ultimate Defrag, not for defragmenting though (because I moved to all-SSD a long while ago), but for moving the files around and checking their positions - for development purposes that's very useful.

Just checked disktrix.com, and it's down. So much for my projects...

 

Absolutely. Little known or spoke of fact is that UD4 is pretty darn efficient for that specific purpose mentioned. It is been a dream to use and the disc metaphor is not just eye candy although it WAS a strong draw at one time with that little extra feature thrown in the mix.

Happy to hear you are doing well and by golly as you can plainly see, you are solely missed around here so how about jumping on a new product/program sometime (if and when that might suit plans) and know you'll always have some quality testers and feedback hounds always at the ready to do what WE can to help push things along.
