For those of you using Whatsapp, the following detail proposed changes to the privacy policy. https://blog.whatsapp.com/10000627/Looking-ahead-for-WhatsApp Looks as though your phone number is going to be made available for targeted ads (under your control it seems, things like bank messages, delayed flights is what they say), but also to Facebook, so they can better recommend friends etc. But they say not ads and spam. You will supposedly get 30 days to say nay. https://www.theguardian.com/technol...-users-phone-number-facebook-for-targeted-ads
This targeting is just way out of control. Why on earth do people roll over to being targeted anyway? Consider: that you would have to be mentally deficient somehow, to allow this in real life....... and FB (yet) again, everywhere, just popping up everywhere, like Google.
I would never believe what FB says. 30 days to opt out? what nonsense. Just goes to show they gingerly give with one hand and scoop back frantically with the other and being opted in by default should be against the law everywhere.
WhatsApp and Facebook data sharing plan being investigated. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37198445
EU charges Facebook with giving 'misleading' information over WhatsApp. The EC has filed charges against FB for providing misleading information during the merger approval, and could lead to fines of 1% global turnover in 2014, over $100M. FB "informed regulators that it would not be able to perform automated matching between FB accounts and WhatsApp accounts" - but this is exactly what the privacy changes noted above in August actually do. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/dec/20/eu-facebook-misleading-information-whatsapp
