Maybe I need reminding. But I can't remember the last time a multi-billion corp officer went to prison. Talking about multinationals that produce products. Already know banks & brokerages are immune. There are no penalties, the fish keep getting hooked.

Here is how Microsoft’s Get Windows 10 tool is fooling you and getting away with it

Another ' oops sorry, we made a little mistake' from Microsoft. They will be replacing the current dialog box with one that does not allow the 'X' or Cancel button to be the equivalent of OK.

That was some oops. No oops, they just got caught. I have no problems with the update nonsense, because of the way I do updates.

I didn't invite KB3035583. But he showed up again. I wish I could call the cops & have him locked up for trespassing.

The past few weeks Windows 7 was unstable to the point of suddenly shutting down after a few hours.

A patch Microsoft released Wednesday seem to have fixed the glitch.

    No more sudden shutdowns.

    Last Wednesday?
    Which patch was that?
I got KB3035583 rev. 14.0 offered, but I don't suppose you meant that one?

Or did you mean last week's KB3139923 rev. 3.0?

Point blank I don't care about the China & M$ legal tangle. I am disgusted how M$ can rape the US with impunity.

They are talking about taking legal action against Microsoft, but I believe they have no legal rights if they pirated the W7/8 software in the first place. Even with a genuine license your rights are obliterated by the EULA. You need a war chest and a mob of lawyers to take on Microsoft. I understand your ire.

Microsoft just upgraded my wife's XPS 15 from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. I mean: I had Windows 10 Pro on the XPS 15, and Microsoft forced through an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, the same exact build: 10586.318. I saw the upgrade notice, there was no way to stop it upon shutdown, and I got to wait 30 anxiety-filled minutes while Microsoft "did their upgrade". I'm an advanced user and I've never seen anything like that. Has anyone had this happen to them?

    JLD,

Has your Win10 partition used space increased by 5 to 10 GB?

KB3138612 does not contain the GWX component.

No, the partitions are the same size they were (I screenshot them after major software updates). Why did you ask that?

I believe what Brian asked is the size of the used space on your C: partition, not the size of the partition itself.

Got it. There is a new Windows.old folder dated yesterday, which validates that it upgraded itself yesterday.

    That's strange.
So does that mean that you can now revert back from Win 10 to Win 10 (to same version)? And if you revert back do you think you will be offered to "upgrade" again?

The option to revert back exists. I'm not going to try it. I'm going to do a clean Win 10 install in a couple of days, but message to Microsoft: I DON'T appreciate the unnecessary work that your product created
