I stopped installing on demand scanners in Dec 2011. At the time, I realized that I was running lesser amounts of scans as time passed by. And found myself upgrading scanners to new versions even though I was not running scans. A lot of work for nothing.

So, I figured an easier way for me to handle scans was to uninstall all scanners in my computers and whenever I wanted to run one, I would install HMP and or MBAM under Shadow defender, run the scan and reboot the PC. That works pretty good. But now I am running almost no scan at all, not even in Shadow mode. Last time I ran one was about July or August last year and the way is looking, I ll be going all of 2016 without one. :)

OK, I'm back with ESET online scanner, just as slow and ponderous as ever, with a spate of errors in Event Viewer related to the driver blocked from loading. Just like in the olden days. I suppose faster (MUCH) scans like HitmanPro are better, just want another opinion now and again. 45 seconds w/HMP versus 23 min w/ESET. No appreciable difference in detection ability, right? Oh yes, and memory consumption balloons by 10%, why I don't know. But I'll keep it in my downloads anyway, why not?

I don't use on-demand scanners. I simply don't see why after using VS/Sandboxie with WD.

I have found HitManPro to be a very good addition to
my sig-less config. Ease of use/accuracy, as well as
some user friendly "after scan" options won me over
    a long time ago.

I agree with this! Someone else made a very good point also, though, when it comes to discovering weird little out-of-character PC behaviors and a quick scan provides some reassurance (or more info).

Thanks, I had no idea it has a portable version, added to my list and USB. ;)

I prefer to have portable scanners with cleaning capabilities at hand, like EEK & KVRT and Zemana.

I avoid using CureIt, HitmanPro and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for various reasons.

I uninstalled HMP and MBAM a couple of months ago. I tried EEK, which is not bad, but it is a bit too "cumbersome". It took ages to load and scan my machine, so I also uninstalled it after a month or so. I've been using ZAM Portable for some time and like it. However, I'm still wondering what scanners they use.

Guys- please note that Worms and diverse other scriptors (common undetected infections) are almost universally detected and reversed by Zemana Portable but not many (or any) others.

I'm frequently scanning (on-demand) all my machines with this tools:

    *) Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    *) Zemana anti malware
    *) ADW cleaner
    *) Virus total uploader

Still HitmanPro, and very occasionally ESET online scanner and RogueKiller. The last two are thorough but very time-consuming and RK has some big-time false positives in the PUM department.

RogueKiller supposedly detects them also, though I've never had the delight of finding out. I've used this software for a while, it seems to detect a lot of weird little junk. But Zemana is much, much less time-consuming so it's superior in that respect alone.

Since I'm using Emsisoft Antimalware I removed Emsisoft Emergency Kit. I still use Avira PC Cleaner, Malwarebytes AM and HitmanPro for occasional on demand scans. I also use Virustotal uploader to scan installers before running them.

Yes it's not updated and not downloadable on their site but it still works.
