Why did you tick it JR ? Did you find out what the security problem is that it supposedly addresses?

All I could find is speculation. Like this: it causes BSOD on Chinese systems that have pirated W7 installed. However, there are lots of pirated W7 systems worldwide and no flame out from the 'other' usual suspects. I doubt MS is chasing W7 pirates unless the free W10 upgrade is working well on the Chinese pirated copies and not the others. Still it seems like a loss leader to me.

It is a security update - not ticked/ not recommended. Why?

Like you, that's all the info I could find, thus, I went ahead and installed it. As I recall, mine (Win7 64-bit) was ticked as Important:

As to why it wasn't ticked in your system, I can't answer that.

Maybe it only fixes a security issue on x64 - though does not seem likely. does it? You would think that if it were a mistake (as in it should be ticked on 32 bit systems also), MS has had enough time to fix it.

Hi Emmjay, my W7 is also 32 bits. KB3146706 was not ticked. All is well after installing it. :)

M$ doesn't make mistakes anymore. If the user installs an update & it borks their OS the user should have waited 23 days later when M$ released the 4th revision of that update. It is never microsofts fault forever onward.

...and if the user hides an update, after a new revision of that update it appears again in the list. And again, and again ...

Would anyone be able to track down a list of security updates/hotfixes/patches for .NET Framework 4.5.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium x64?

Is Windows 8.1 silently killing off already-installed updates? http://AskWoody.com "I just reviewed the output from my script on one of my Win 8.1 systems, comparing it to prior runs and I noticed something – specifically the section where installed updates are listed. I found a REDUCTION in the number of installed updates between the nightly runs on 4/26 and 4/27. Doing a bit of sleuthing I discovered it was the CbsTask that removed them, apparently as part of regularly scheduled system maintenance".

Interesting link to AskWoody: Can Google and Apple take over the PC market?
I believe they will, Microsoft screwed themselves with this "Forced to Upgrade to Win 10" crap. I love Win 7 and I want to keep it without having to add software to prevent the upgrade. Tired of jumping through hoops with Windows.

Bo, looks as though you are probably correct. KB3146706 came back and it is ticked in today's offerings (W7) with no revision number. No documentation though. All those BSODs - pirated copies took a hit :shifty: apparently.

The KB3146706 knowledge base article mentions the 05/03/2016 19:53:00 version as revision 2.0.

Tnx - that was not there earlier today. So it has been revised since it was offered April 12. They also state there are some known issues, however no mention of the EMET EAF issue.

Emmjay, for what is worth, KB3146706 has not caused any kind of issue or glitch in my W7 32 bits HP laptop. I installed that update on April 25th. The PC feels the same with it as without it.

Bo, Do you have EMET 5.5 installed? I have EMET 5.5 and I have EAF ticked for everything.
