I really "went to school" while reading this article. Never had considered it before today. I no longer need to build any credit because I have plenty. Freezing my credit to protect what I have worked so hard to build might be a great idea. You have given me some homework my friend, and I thought I was done with school. LOL!!

    I believe in this process.

2 step idea (two numbers needed)

    step 1
I wish the Gov would assign you a lifetime TAX FORM ID # and you could ONLY legally put it on your specific tax form. It would be against all USA law for anyone to ask you to provide it EVER. Further; if you are stupid enough to lose it then you MUST go in person to the IRS office with a passport or similar to get a reset. NO resets over the phone, online, etc.... We are adults here, if you lose the number you WILL go through the hassle to reset it!

    step 2

When you enter your special TAX FORM ID number (on the IRS Gov website) you would get another 2FA number sent to your cell as a text. This number would only be valid for 60 days and then you would need a new number to be dispatched via text.

Without BOTH numbers being correct and present on the submitted 1040's forms, they would be summarily rejected. Period!!

I am not saying this should be a legal requirement because some will argue they don't get text or whatever. But if I want this protection under my SSN then I could install the protection and it would be lifetime. YOU would have to know my number and the special 2FA text number they send to collect under my SSN. At my option I could periodically change my TAX FORM ID # but only when logged in and correctly responding with 2FA text numbers to my cell.

What would be wrong with this approach?

Everyone should have a security freeze as default. It is ridiculous that some people have to pay for it!
No one should be able to get a credit report without directly contacting you, verifying your identity, and obtaining your permission.
