I've installed Webroot on several of friends' PCs and so far so good. I really like Webroot's agressive PUP/link policy. It seems to block lots of links without even reaching the download. So far none of those PCs that were previously full of PUPs, have came back to me

Plus, it also is quite fast on detecting unknown malware (that initially was able to run). I've not tested with bad infections, but with some lighter ones. While it misses them initially, malware will be blocked after some minutes (max hours).

Still, I'd like to see feature where it blocks extremely rare files that are not seen before (like Avast does for example).

Well to me it's unknown as how many users would use this? So Submit a Support Ticket and ask them to Whitelist the the file.

Just bought WSA...Disappointed the FW blocking aspect of it has gone..I looked though the Webroot community posts and I'm not buying into the win 8 and above line about Windows firewall being the culprit..Seems other developers like Tinywall and WFC have managed the migration with more complicted front ends..Pull ya fingers out and add the function again.

We are still Beta Testing and we are still using the Extension and the Driver so no timetable at this time.

so, Webroot + Windows Firewall needs help from Glasswire.....?

 

No it's my personal preference as WSA's Firewall is a smart firewall and blocks malware from calling out to it's control center, but some of us like granular control of what programs we allow to call out. So yes I have 3 Firewalls for Outbound 1 Inbound and behind IDS Cable Fire-walled Modem/Router.

 

Besides the webshield is there any other feature coming to the betatesters? I simply receive small updates related with webshield.
I know that webroot has an almost completely cloud approach but I would expect more features to test.

 

Well, Windows Firewall Advanced offers granular outbound....and WF Advanced overrides Webroot "smart" firewall. The API argument seems not to satisfy. Third party smart firewalls run with branded GUI.

With every update they are always adding generic detection of certain malware family's to the client but can't say more about future features that are on the road map but there are some coming.

 

What is Windows Firewall Advanced? I can only post what I know and what Webroot is willing to change and so far they don't want to add the grandeur control back into WSA. But yes WSA has a smart firewall and if malware was trying to call out you will get a pop-up and you can block or allow but for common users it's all they need not us experts.

But that's how many people become "experts" by using an AV or 3rd party firewall and seeking answers why they are getting "pop-ups" thus making themselves safer and the web as a whole!


I will let this one year subscription run and if they haven't reintroduced the firewall element I wont renew.

 

In my mind a "smart firewall" in addition to checking the characteristics of the traffic itself, the smart firewall also identifies the program requesting access and either allows it or blocks it, based on the trust level that has been assigned by xyz security to the program through actual testing. A hash is used to prevent a malicious program from masquerading as a legitimate one.
What criteria does Webroot use in deciding if a connection/outbound traffic is suspicious/malicious..?
I'll write lower case "smart firewall" as Smart Firewall may be brand logo.
Smart firewall allows necessary programs to access the internet, but refuses to allow unauthorized traffic in or out.
Smart firewall runs on automatic, and makes all (most) the necessary decisions without user having to respond to alerts or questions.
Does WSA include "smart firewall"...?

 

Is there any way to install lastpass desktop while using WSA Complete? If I download the lastpass installer from lastpass website it forces me to install webroot "password manager" and I want the original lastpass.

 

i always just opt not to approve the install of the webroot branded lp plugin/extension in my browser when prompted to. that way, you can install the regular lp stuff without any trouble (unless this has changed in the last few months)

 

It's Cloud-based so if WSA is Monitoring a unknown file as as it goes through it's thing in the cloud and there are many levels of Monitoring and at a certain level will trigger the builtin firewall to react so the user has a choice to block or allow! It's all done in the Cloud by ENZO the brains behind the Webroot's Intelligence Network http://www.brightcloud.com/platform/webroot-intelligence-network.php so I'm the one that is saying it's a smart firewall because it will not block legitimate processes but the behavior of said process from malware and block it from calling out to it's control center. They need to do something with the tray icon, its inanimate..This is the first AV (I've used) that isn't..I know it changes colour if a shield is turned off but it never lets you know if its scanning or updating its files on your pc...Lets see some icon activity to let us know its alive!!!
