So I have this inexpensive W10 ASUS Notebook with a 32gb INTEL Atom CPU. I have a 32gb micro card as D: With MR v6 (paid) I image and store it on D: All goes well until I attempt a restore, then it can't find the image. This occurs whether the card is formatted fat 32 or ntfs. If I manually explore for the D: drive from MR's GUI it doesn't show up even though I properly drill from "This PC." Stop the presses! I just went out and selected "Browse This Image," and based on size it is listed as E; Should I re-image after changing the drive to E: or is there something else going on here? Thank you! Update: Change recovery drive to E: but recovery still fails!
ratchet, The booted OS assigns the drive letters. When Win10 is booted it assigns D: drive letter to the partition on your micro SD card. When the Macrium PE is booted it assigns E: drive letter to the partition on your micro SD card. Other WinPEs or DOS might assign a different drive letter again. The drive letter exists in the mind of the booted OS.
Correct! Brian and Frog, further confusion: I did a restart and it not shows the same drive x2, i.e. D: and E: Manually, using E, I was able to view the files in the label D. I really didn't try full restore though since that isn't what should be occurring. So bizarre! Thank you!
ratchet, Forget the drive letters as they don't matter. They could be X: Y: Z: and it doesn't matter. Are you saying the Macrium menu can't see the partition on the micro SD card but the "This PC" can see the partition on the micro SD card.
Yes! It always showed D but when I'd try a recovery it would say it couldn't find it or access it. Then in this drop down menu I found in MR, it offered where to store an image and it starts with E. Then after changing the label to E "This PC) now shows D: Operating System (still shows C; as such though too) and E: Recovery (as Reflects default name). I think I'll format the card and remove it. I'm not sure what will happen of course since it is showing up twice.
Update: So I finally got rid of D by removing the card and rebooting. It appeared to be a perfect clone of C and was still being shown with the card removed. I'll put the card back and wait for further advice. I'll post my dilemma on MR support too.
ratchet, Forgetting any reference to drive letters, can you find your backup image in the Macrium Recovery Environment?
Alright, so I figured part of this out! The sudden return of D: was because when I select "Browse Image" it renders it (forget the term it uses) as D:, so it at least partially works. I'll wait for a reply from their support forum before trying another test restore. Thank you!
However, I just tested an incremental restore again and again "Restore Failed" "Unable to access, yada, yada, yada! So unfortunately still a problem.
Can you plug in a regular external USB HDD and image to it and restore from it? That micro card might just some property that is causing a problem.
I do have a support ticket open with MR, however, I decided to use a flash drive and it works that way. I'd even tried a different micro SD with out success! The installed micro would have been convenient but I'll just use for storage!
