I had flirted with the idea of using LifeLock for a few years. In the end I had heard quite a few horror stories about them. In fairness; I had heard and have seen some pretty bad breakdowns of protection with other credit firms too! My decision was to do a credit file freeze on the 3 bureaus. I monitor stuff pretty closely and I feel having all my files frozen is a better way to guard against someone else trying to become ME with new credit accounts. So far so good. I get a text anytime activity of any kind over 100 bucks happens on any one my bank cards. All of my personal info has been breached numerous times from several large corporation's databases. They send a letter but never any compensation for all the worry and time. It sucks really. So far I have been lucky and apparently the freezes have kept me OK.
If you subscribe to a service that monitors or tracks your activities, conversations, etc. then you are either unknowingly or willingly consenting to this type of abuse. This isn't the first service to potentially be a privacy nightmare for users. Just look at: Internet Service Providers multi-factor authentication with e-mail addresses, trusted devices, mobile numbers, and biometrics Sadly, we often trade one for another in terms of security and privacy.

Thanks for posting the link for him. As I mentioned above I pretty much felt like I had no choice. ALL my personal info was completely hacked from a large insurance company here. I have been notified that my info was seen on the dark net so what was I supposed to do? All credit cards were changed and the FREEZE seems like the best way to go. These irresponsible companies need to participate in the "pain" they cause folks. If I wasn't so prudent at watching my stuff I would be chasing numerous bad credit entries. I just barely beat them to the punch. It does suck!
