I have a minor wifi issue with Windows 10. Whenever I resume my laptop from sleep, after a moment, the wifi connection drops out and it takes a few seconds to reconnect. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 on the main laptop I use.

The interesting thing is that wifi is connected very briefly before dropping out. I know this because, for example, I get net notifications from Wilders. I just tried disabling the power saving feature of my wifi card, but it made no difference. I am running the last drivers Intel released for my wireless adapter, which only officially support Windows 8, but there will never be any official support for Windows 8.1 or 10.

I had a similar issue happening in both Win 8.1 and 10. After resuming from sleep, sometimes (not always), the wifi was knocked out/dead and I was unable to reconnect manually. I solved it by going into Device Manager, selecting the wifi device, right clicking on Properties, and unchecking the box in the Power Management section which allows Windows to turn off the device to save power. After doing that, never had the issue anymore... Maybe you've already done this, I wasn't sure from what you said above....

@Kerodo Yes, I've already disabled the power saving feature.

Posted this in another thread, but is probably more appropriate here ...
Anyone used GWX Control Panel? Woody Leonhard mentions it here.

I'm in the habit of creating a manual system restore point before making changes to settings or just trying stuff to see what happens, I can go back to a previous date, so I know the system restore point works. However I have noticed that not all cumulative updates in W10 create a system restore point before they install . Is there any significance to this ? That is, it is not a mistake, there is a reason why no system restore point for certain CUs ? Anybody know why that would be?

He's the guy who deals with the customers so the engineers don't have to.

(in other words, he's not certified in anything other than following a script)

@TS4H Why not just remove the password hint? There are instructions here.

I generally avoid using password hints. When I do use one, I use one that is totally unrelated to the password.

I've just replaced the native Windows 10 Start Menu with StartIsBack++. I was more than happy with the new Start Menu until it stopped showing new programs I installed.

This is a well known bug, which happens when there are more than 512 application shortcuts. There is an article about it at TechRadar.
In my case, I have 550 shortcuts.

While I liked the new Start Menu, in my opinion the classic Start Menu is better.

Thanks @Krusty13 that's good to know. I may end up keeping StartIsBack++.

I never used StartIsBack+ when I was on windows 8.1 even though I bought it, hated the windows 10 start menu & found out they did a version for 10 called StartIsBack++ so I installed that & I have to say I wish I had installed it on windows 8.1 sooner, very light & quicker than the monstrosity that is the windows 10 start menu :)

Leave it blank or, if forced to enter a hint, put in a fortune-cookie-like saying or famous quotation that has absolutely nothing to do with your password but that you find inspirational.

My neighbor's laptop just died - it was 12 years old so they are no t cursing too much. The MB is toast. They have backups.

They tell me that they want to purchase a new laptop and they like HP. They are hoping for a deal on Black Friday or Cyber Monday but will wait for a 2016 new model if the deals are just a clear out of old stock. They took a look at the W10 Cartel offerings but they were not impressed (price-wise or the product selection). They don't buy the low-end stuff. They are not adverse to W10, but have no experience with it. The dead PC had W7 Ultimate on it (retail license), so if they do not like W10 they want to clone the W10 disk to a new SSD, keep it to play with and install a new SSD in the laptop and install W7 Ultimate on it. They spoke to a 'geek' at Best Buy and was told that the laptops with W10 should not be re-installed with W7 or they would no longer work - that did not help. They called a few other big box stores and were told the same thing. What is this all about?

I have no experience installing W7 on a laptop that came with W10 already installed - only done the reverse. Also I have never bought a PC from a big box store either so I do not know what kind of license it comes with. I am assuming it is OEM ( pre-activated). I also expect it to be a W10 full license. Unfortunately these are all assumptions on my part so any advise would be appreciated.

Signed some time ago, but I doubt it will help at all. Millions wanted/want Start back and MS refused, a few thousand will not do much. :cautious:
