Hey, only the manufacturer decided what is a beta or not! Microsoft FTW... OK, I was not serious in case you were still wondering.

I consider most MS OS releases as betas until they've been out at least a year ... or more.

As I am sure many of you already know, KB3088195 breaks Chrome, FF and Opera in Sandboxie. While waiting for a SBIE fix, I have uninstalled the offending 3088195 and Chrome once again works. I also had to re-hide 3035583 and 2952664, prior to installing a handful of other updates. More importantly, I took the time to image my HDD prior to messing with any of this junk.

I didn't even look at any of the MS updates yet. I have my updates shut off. I'll wait and see how many other programs MS can Bork with their updates. MS is a real PITA now if you don't want Win 10. I did update adobe flash.

I looked and there were a half dozen labelled "important", including the 710 win updates update which I don't trust, so I hid it. I'll wait a few weeks and see if anyone reports any nasties.....

No problems so far. I guess people only really start posting when something borks their system. That is actually pretty rare in the general population.

I am on Win 7, and I am getting to the point, I am going to just go thru the security updates and only install those that affect the kernel, and hide everything else. The other game is getting old.

    The Oktoberfestborkers are here!

    Oktoberbork.jpg

I'll probably hide all of these, permanently.

As always, installed all today's updates (Flash, Intel HD graphics driver, cumulative update and MS removal tool) on Win 10 Pro without a hitch and hysteria.

Thanks, I thought it was apposite. ;)

By the time I've had these Oktoberfestborkers long enough in 'quarantine' to apply them the regular Bork Tuesday will be upon us all again.

I wonder what many users would do to protect their pc's without the updates? Many users are not technically informed enough to survive without some help from MS Updates. Most people posting in here are, but believe me there are MANY who know very little about keeping their pc's running properly. I just look around at my friends and relatives to determine this - lol!

Not trying to be a conspiracy nut here, but multinationals do have behavioral psychologists working for them 24/7, I wouldn't be surprised if most of today's "updates" for Win7/8 would have a slight impact on overal system response each on their own.

It's an odd quandary, recently my brother's laptop was bricked by an MS update. He's a software engineer and regularly made an image of his Windows 8.1 hard drive. Normally, he checks the updates first, like most people posting on this thread do, but he thought he'd be OK.

He was lucky to have been prepared with an image. I often wonder how important these MS security patches are. I wonder what the statistical likelihood of contracting a serious infection because of not patching (for most people who run a decent up to date AV) actually is?

I know people and companies that don't update (regularly or at all) and they don't get infected. I also know a lot of Windows XP users and they don't get infected also. IMO most infections happen when users are not careful and run something they shouldn't.

Yeah, I reckon that's about right. I think you can get by with a minimum of security apps and a bit of common sense. I'd prefer to be fully patched and I always update my Ubuntu laptop and Android tablet when prompted. I just don't trust Microsoft's slacker approach to updates these days. lol

    Earth .... occasionally

Yes , it really irritates me also .
I only seem to get about one week without seeing that hated 'Win Update' icon in the notification area !

BTW , I got 10 today , for what it's worth ... but they are not going anywhere in the near future !

On a related topic , I see that the term Kolossal Bork is catching on ..... maybe one day it will grow up to be a "meme" - :)

Who does not have a friend or family member who is not in a state of total confusion over WU? Patch Tuesday is the most hated day of the week - it used to be Monday - leave to to MS to usurp that.

Most of my family are novice users - they are the most trusting people you would ever want to meet and MS has eroded much of that trust. I moved them to an Android Smartphone as they just do email, phone calls and a little bit of web surfing. They really no longer need a PC or Windows for that matter. In the past I would never have advised a friend (who asks for advise) to turn off WU, but if they are novices, I most reluctantly do. You want a novice to have the most protection, in the most convenient way, but MS has turned WU into a marketing opportunity leaving the novice inexplicably exposed to exploitation. W7 and W8 users may need to re-evaluate if WU is to their benefit or not. Is there such thing as an informed MS user anymore?

    Hi emmjay

Guess what. Me too. Going forward I am checking what the updates are and only installing kernel patches.
