Installed new version. First attempt not good, I tried installing over, and it made a mess. Restored system and uninstalled version on system. Then installed new version. Install is confusing as you have to activate then install. Most software works the opposite. Now up and running. The one big don't like is that it doesn't show the list of software it will update. So far it seems stable, which is great.

Andra is there a list of changes. It looks like it is mainly appearance. What's new under the hood.

They send it by email. This is a case, at least for me, when the beta process is more of a problem then the beta. They are using slacker. I finally got it setup, posted feedback and apparently posted it in the wrong place as it has disappeared. Not bothering with it again.

Totally agree. Cannot see any good beta testing carried out this way, count me out.

Good point Peter, it seems like they are trying to sell that being a beta tester is a honour and privilege for the select few who get in first, however most beta testers are doing the company a favour, finding bugs etc. They should be making it easy for someone to be a beta tester and not having them jump thru a bunch of hoops.

Yep, and a good reason for that is I installed the beta and I've already had to restore back to the previous version. The new version filters out some images on some websites.

Agree. Slack is dreadful. I'll email support with any feedback/problems in future rather than dickering about for ten minutes trying to compose and send a simple feedback message.

PS. Just seen a message from Heimdal on their Slack pages:
"Unfortunately, the beta program has been suspended. It seems that the backend architecture isn’t yet ready to be tested."

    Yep, I saw that message.

Andra, this whole beta affair really has me wondering if I can trust Heimdal. This was horribly executed. I've been beta testing since early days of Process Guard(2003) and I've never seen anything this bad.

When I tried the beta, I had install problems, and finally got it installed, only to discover it breaks things. Finally just restored an image to put it back to the original version.
I wonder how many of all these beta testers you guys were trying so hard to round up, have a clue on how to recover from a broken beta. This was really shameful.

It's still not fixed, at least not on Opera 12.

That doesn't sound good, but shouldn't you test this stuff on virtual machines?

Okay and just how many of the several hundred beta testers they recruited do you think have virtual machines. How many of them even image and can restore?

Good point, but perhaps the developers should warn about this, alpha and beta versions can always cause problems.

Yes indeed they should, but instead they tried to actively recruit testers, and apparently were quite successful

Thank you for the feedback, Peter! I really appreciate it and we'll actually make a few changes to the program to also reward the most active participants in the program. We've had to put the program on hold to tweak some things regarding the infrastructure and we'll be back soon with news. Thank you again and keep that feedback coming our way - it's immensely valuable!

    Have a good week!

    Hello!

Thanks for joining the program! We will invite everyone who will go through the registration process and confirm their interest for the program and we will also reward those who will be the most involved. We've put the program on hold for a few days, until we get the infrastructure ready, but that will happen soon, so thank you for your patience!

Excellent, but I hope you drop the dreadful Slack programme for reporting issues and suggestions.

You'll also be able to send us feedback directly via email if that works better for you. We know that not everyone is comfortable using Slack. Thanks for the feedback!

Also, regarding the beta program, if you have any questions about it, it would be great if you could email us directly. We sometimes miss messages posted here, although I do my best to keep up, but with so many things going on before the beta program and subsequent launch, it's sometimes difficult to do. Feel free to email me at aza@heimdalsecurity.com anytime you need. I always answer emails in 24h tops, so nothing will go without a response.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! This is our first time doing a beta program, so we're trying to adjust as we go and make it as a rewarding experience as possible.

Heimdal Pro is showing two listings for Java (see screenshot below). One of them is having trouble getting updated. Two questions:

    1. What could the second Java listing be for?
    2. Why would that one be having trouble getting updated, but not the other one?

    System: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, x64
    Thanks!

I had a similar issue last week (same OS as yours) and this is what Heimdal support suggested which cured the problem:

"It may be possible that you still have a trace of java update_ 60 and Heimdal is detecting it. I will like you to try this:
    1) Press windows-key + r
    2) Write “regedit” and press enter
    3) Navigate to HKEYLOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment
    4) Delete the folder named 1.8.0 60

If you don't find Java at that location, try also here:
    1) Press windows-key + r
    2) Write “regedit” and press enter
    3) Navigate to HKEYLOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment
    4) Delete the folder named 1.8.0 60

Also, please check is there a folder named jre1.8.0_ 60 in this location C:\Program Files\Java . If yes, please delete it.

After you do this, open Heimdal and apply a scan. Check if java update_ 60 is still in the list."

    @faircot

That did the trick! I started with your first set of instructions 1-4 and Java version 60 is gone now. Thanks very much! :thumb:
