Do most people on Wilders still use a Script Blocker?

@Brummelchen @summerheat thanks for the feedback - Disconnect hangs in there because flash content breaks on several sites with the Disconnect lists - easy to toggle off with Disconnect - & just cause its been there a long time...

 

I'm afraid you must be doing something wrong because it works perfectly in uBlock Origin. I suggest that you read Dynamic filtering:quick guide, proceed to the default deny page and finally read the Blocking mode page. And don't forget to save your rules with the padlock! Last but not least you should read the Overview of uBlock's network filtering engine in order to understand how everything works together.

BTW, in your previous post you mentioned that you tried uBlock - you should really use uBlock Origin as it is much better.

EDIT: I guess that you will most probably be interested in using hard mode blocking.

EDIT2: I've just noticed that gorhill wrote in the settings for the 3rd-party filters pane: "All other filter lists: unchecked" (beyond the default lists). Hm - I wonder why. If I create a noop rule for a 3rd party domain I'm even better protected if the other hosts files (MVPS etc.), tracking lists and country-specific lists are also enabled.

 

I would not use UBlockO beyond medium mode, anything more dynamic blocking desired is IMO better handled with uMatrix. I run them together now. That not recommended for most and uBlockO is mostly fine for everyone.

I have one media site that I really have not been able to unblock a video with uMatrix. I might make post of a case in the right thread, but not now and certainly not here. It is nice to disable matrix filtering and noop with uBlockO then. Then again some sites, I want to block 1st party cookies and scripts and images, only uMatrix does that easy. Not with the impractical paranoid settings of the rules i posted, but quite the normal install settings.

The tracking images I don't block, but much more easy to do in uMatrix. Goes way beyond this thread of course where people just use something like uBlock or ABP derivatives.

Perhaps RP is messing up with your uMatrix? As what have been posted should work definately.

 

Yes, I agree as uMatrix allows for a much more granular control. However, if someone is "simply" looking for a RP alternative, uBlock0 is sufficient.

Of course. Refrain from using Dynamic Filtering and unselect all those filterlists which you don't want.

no need for sandboxie. if you edit rules manually it need to save them permanently to the left side (after restart all edit gone). if not use left button for reset (to right side).
if you save rules in the matrix you can not reset later in the settings, ofc.

dont do that. i am still experiencing with 3rd party blocking and the list is getting very long now for allow.
but - its like noscript teaching, after some period the preferred sites are in the list.

I've been using uBlock Origin on @gorhill medium setting & over-all I'm very satisfy. I'm now at the point I don't feel the need to use uMatrix or NoScript. I also love the fact I can easily export my rules to my other browsers.

 

yes I use uMatrix on Chrome. uMatrix on Opera. No Script on Firefox. No Script on SeaMonkey.

The only thing I don't like about uMatrix is that you have to unblock the whole website to use Google Translate on Chrome.

I've just been testing NS in allow mode along with uBlock O in medium & i agree with gugarci that uBlock O does everything i need, but on the other hand i don't find the uMatrix GUI cumbersome to use...
also FYI - it seems uBlock (not uBlock Origin) is not blocking as expected in medium

Using Ublock, only blocking third party iframes (both HTTP and HTTPS) and no third-party filter lists with my own filter rule to block HTTP third party scripts ( http://*^$script,third-party ). Allowing third party HTTPS scripts means all log-in stuff etc works without any hassle.

* vimeocdn.com * allow
* youtube.com * allow
* ytimg.com * allow

When I encounter a problem on a sight I often visit, I use the big blue disable uBlock for this site, to disable blocking because:

I want that site to survive (getting income from advertising is part of the free-web model)

uBlockO in medim mode for me. Added this extension and removed three (Noscript, ABP and element_hiding_helper_for_adblock_plus).

 

How I run uMatrix and uBlockO together:

They allow normally about the same. uMatrix is in default install settings except I block 1st party cookies too, behind-the-scene (don't do this if you update the plugins and static lists for instance) and Spoof HTTP referrer, Strict HTTPS, Block all hyperlink auditing attempts, And all other Privacy settings like clearing the cache, local storage, cookies at certain time periods. Well uMatrix blocks also 3rd party XHR, Plugin and Other.
And uBlockO is in medium mode.

Now if I need whitelisting I have 2 options and then I look into matrix and also depending on the site and what I want to see, what I do:

1. Noop the site in uBlockO and do the whitelisting in uMatrix.
2. Disable matrix filtering in the site and noop the needed 3rd party scripts/frames in uBlockO. This does not disable Strict HTTPS so take that into consideration, other things that are not visible on the matrix will stay too in uMatrix protection in that site.

Hope this interests anyone else doing the double guarding and helps them.
