From what I can recall XP ran well on just 512 Mb of RAM. That's probably why it was so fast compared to Win 7 on the same hardware.

My path is Windows 7 > Windows 10 > Windows 7 > Linux Mint (soon) due to telemetry

Yeah, I do have images here of Win 7, Win 10, and various Linux distros. I use them all from time to time. It's nice to have variety.... :)

I already have mint and 7 dual booting on my desktop ,but today I wiped my lap top of windows 7 too ,and put mint 17.2 on.Just copied settings from my desktop to laptop ,void theme ,and i think im gonna stay with mint.Still need windows for my satnav updates and to use wugfresh nexus toolkit ,but ive finished with updating windows both OS wise and general "security updates".Ill miss two things 1.becky email client which ive used for years and 2.sticky passwords.Sticky passwords i can sort of replace with keepassx but becky is going to be hard to replace.I use clawsmail on the desktop ,but its not quite becky.

I'd be using Linux also except for one reason mostly.. I do get superior hd video in Netflix on Win as compared to Linux. So it's a choice I make I guess. Which do I want? Better crisp clear HD video in Win, or would I rather hide in my cave in fear of privacy issues and use Linux. If it weren't for the video though, I would use Linux.

It would be interesting to know how many users have tried W10 and have gone back to W7 (i.e. of the 75 million on W10). Over the next 12 months I would expect that this is going to be happening quite a bit as long as going back and forth is not problematic. I have read that several people were not aware of the 'rollback within 30 days ' limit - the rollback option disappears when time is up. Many of them installed W10 during the first few weeks of August so the 30 days limit is happening for many of them right now. Of course they can go back whenever they want if they have a backup image of W7 - seems quite a few did not get the memo.

Does anybody know if the OEMs are offering an OS downgrade on new devices? I had heard a rumor that MS told the OEMs that this would not be tolerated. W10 is it and only it.

Id probably use both like you do.In my case its not so much a fear or privacy issues but more an awakening that i like to use my OS rather than be used by it .which is all that seems to be happeing lately.

Many of my family and neighbours werent aware of the rollback and when they did ,didnt know where to find the settings to do it.Granted most of my family and neighbours are elderly ,but i think a few people will get "stung"by the upgrade....unless theres some sort of inbuilt microsoft warning thing that pops up and tells them to "click here" to return to windows whatever when the times up?

Yeah, that's a good way of putting it, true. I do have some reservations about running 10, but when I've tried to go back to my 7 images lately, I've had some problems with performance. So I'm kinda stuck. Best way for me is to just leave things open, and run whatever I want, when I want, whether it be 10 or 7 or Debian or Mint, etc...
