My initial impressions. I've been an Acronis user for several years (2010). I'm trying 2016 and so far it's working well. It does seem to be a little faster than the older version (but nothing like AX64--for a refference). "Fast" is subjective I suppose. I like the UI so far and is more user friendly than in the past. The boot option by pressing F11 is nice and welcome. The list of updates is showing a lot of files from Avast for some reason along with the actual backups. So far the only thing that seems odd or not working correctly. FWIW I tried Reflect v6 and it locked up my computer. I was wondering if I was going to get it to ever boot again! I did and promptly removed Reflect.
I would like to know how it locked up your computer? I've installed the free version on many computers without ever seeing that issue. It has been rock solid on all.
I've had the same impression for Macrium Reflect v6 Free. It has been spotless on every PC I installed it.
As for Reflect v6--Did a two backups, waited a day and decided to do a restore and upon rebooting it locked at that Toshiba splash screen. It stayed there forever with nothing happening. Eventually I powered it off and then on with the same results several times. As I recall I was able to boot into Win refresh and then exited and it booted normally. Prior to this I couldn't even change it to boot to a CD or USB. Something about booting to the Refresh must have cleared something out, I just don't know. I just never had that happen before trying to restore with Reflect. Possibly it would never happen again but the only new variable was Reflect. I too have used the free version many times with no problems and was really hoping for the same. Frankly I'm scared to try it again.
Sorry to hijack but one further update. Retried Reflect 6 and it worked fine--and very fast! I was very impressed with Acronis '16. Not nearly as fast but possibly easier to use for the average computer user. Reflect requires a little more experience and clicks it seems.
I did the same thing, I had an Issue when trying to restore Partition's in certain order, Acronis restored just fine Macrium 6 seemed to have an issue with it.
Like I mentioned many times ago, Acronis has been well tested by a huge user base. Although you may hear more complaints because so many people use it therefore increases the chance that bugs would be found, it's actually a lot more seasoned. I have never had any problem with Acronis and Terabyte IFW/IFL backup/restore Windows OS partitions/disk.
I've had every imaging program I've tried fail at some point including Acronis. Thus I don't trust just one. But it has failed far less and saved me far more times and anything when nothing else was working. For that I'm very thankful. If they could pick up the speed with which restores are made (in my useless opinion) it wold be the best out there as far as I'm concerned and would want.
Very good point. Thus I always use at least two different disk imaging programs one after the other when backuping up the freshly installed OS drive. The chance of two programs fault at the same time is extremely low, as long as the disk itself is good.
Their ad says it's 50% faster than competitors. I think it is some faster than my several year old version, but I'm not seeing anything nearing 50% faster than anything I've used. Update: Maybe it's not too slow on the taking an additional image after all. I just did one and with Reflect 6 and the changes were greater on the Acronis image and it was quicker than the Reflect image. I will say Acronis really used the and heated up the PC in the process. As far as restores go Acronis took 40 minutes, Reflect about 5. Clearly Acronis can't touch the restores and didn't figure those in in their 50% faster comment (which I wanted it to come through for me).
