Just a hunch here. Phil could easily use the new software if he wanted to. The last full pgp version was 6.5.8 (where he had sole oversight and control) that he engineered. He participated on 7.0.X but left before its completion. Back in those days the software was FULLY open source and could easily be compiled and verified. Oh for those days! Now Sym has turned the software into a closed source mostly corporate driven instrument, with engineered backdoor access that allows Admin's to manage all drives. Of course that is a nice feature if an employee leaves but it clearly begs the question for engineered backdoor access of all their stuff. Its so obvious that we don't need another "tin foil hat" thread.

My .02 why Phil won't really use it.

Used to use it back in the day, but high price and closed source killed it as far as I was concerned - no particular dissing of Symantec but that's the way it goes.

Well, since he founded Silent Circle as well, he must be all over it right now, and would not recommend anything else.
