What is the easiest way or best free software to block ALL of the internet other than a handful of whitelisted websites? Allowing websites needs to be very simple.
Easiest way is to put a FAKE Proxy server into Internet Explorer and Firefox then list a handfull of as exceptions.
Instructions how to change proxy settings here: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-Proxy-Settings Another way to achieve your goal by using this whitelisting add-on for firefox : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-whitelist/
Whitelist, yes, but the recording function of easy-whitelist will allow all the urls your chosen site connects to regardless of whether you want them or not. This includes third party, malicious, intrusive or what have you. I wouldn't use it. Indeed, check the reviews.
@Overkill Curious to hear your testings, have you blocked the web yet Personally in the distant past I have used Peerblock with exclusion lists for sites required.
