Hi For the past month or so every time I shut down the computer, the SpywareBlaster Firefox browser protection status get disabled, requiring enabling with each restart. It never did that before and not such an issue with IE and Chrome. CCleaner set up to run at reboot, with Firefox Site Preferences checked for cleaning is the problem. Does anybody know how to fix this? Regards. VS
Firefox handles SpywareBlaster rules via Site Preferences. So, make sure in CCleaner you have the "Site Preferences" option unticked.
Thanks That option won't disable SpywareBlaster rules but will leave site preferences uncleared. Using Firefox site preferences setting to manually clear the browser site preferences, will disable SpywareBlaster rules too. So it is a vicious circle. I guess if no other way around exist, it is a matter of either don't worry about clearing site preferences, or not worrying having Firefox protection status disabled. Not quite sure which of the two will leave me the user, more exposed or affected. And off course enable SpywareBlaster Firefox protection with every reboot, which is what I'm doing at present. If the following question is permitted and not off topic: is it very important from a privacy/security perspective to clear browsers Site Preferences on exit or startup?
.... my edit above ... In my personal opinion.... No , it is not very important. But for anyone else , it very much depends on which site preferences remain in your browser , if any at all . Welcome to Wilders , by the way ....

as stated on Mozilla Support's dedicated page. The major security related data, besides pop-up blocking, is that of cookies' permission which is precisely what SpywareBlaster handles when it comes to Firefox. Moreover Site Preferences handles per-site options the user himself has chosen, nothing else. So deleting Site Preferences is deleting your own choices. Site Preferences is accessible with aboutermissions - These will show default values corresponding to the Options if the user hasn't made any per-site modification, and that includes of course sites' cookies blocked bt SpywareBlaster, hence the sites' list on the left which will include sites managed by SpywareBlaster
Thanks. I'll be using private browsing in Firefox. That will allow me to leave unchecked CCleaner's Firefox Site Preferences. Problem solved.
There's no point in deleting Site Preferences, you will leave unchecked CCleaner's Firefox Site Preferences removed : OK From there on Private Browsing has nothing to do with Site Preferences, and implies limits : From Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history Site Preferences is not modified by the sites you visit, it contains the user's choice - Private Browsing handles sites writings : Two different things.

And that might be a part of the issue for the OP ? I think a reasonable measure of privacy must prevail (security requires more) otherwise the Web becomes a source of stress and its possible consequences : paranoia! Anyway, anyone targeted by a genius may be spotted and followed, so what we do in fact is limit the emerged part of the iceberg (brrr feels cold!) which, well done, is enough in 99.99% of the situations. We could epilogue on how a user may be recognized, anywhere, not only on the Web, anywhere he expresses himself without showing himself nor his voice... but why hide ourselves when what most of us wish is to hide our identity+postal address, not to hide our personality. Concerning Panoptclick, it's a mere indicator of probalities tied to one's computer/connection configuration, it's not a phone book. I'll tell you where privacy stops and where paranoia (or dishonest mind) starts : when a given user logs once with one identity, then with another : that is definitely nuts or dishonest. We get to know each other once we don't cheat, doesn't mean our identity is disclosed.... unless you meet someone on a forum and recognize a person you know in life : it's a risk if you're a secret agent or in an unusual love story, otherwise, let us live face in the wind!
Gentlemen Thanks for yours elaborate replies. I'm not an erudite when it comes to IT, matter of fact I'm a self taught man for most of what I know, which is not much. Hence here I inquired about matters that completely bypass me but I have to be involved with due to a necessity of life these days, the net. I always kept things simple, had all settings remember my passwords, etc. Trusting my security apps to protect my computer, privacy and security. Then I was directed by well wishers to be more vigilant as there are dark things lurking in the net mud. So I did put on this add-on, tweak those settings, add that app and from there to here, still asking for direction. I always lived my life in the wind, so much so that I'm carved like a desert rock. Nor I have enemies to hide from. I agree, life is not worth living inside a musty cave... Yours perspectives are helping me to strike a balance. Thanks again and again. Regards, VS
@VecchioScarpone , as far as I've understood it here there are all profiles in terms of being savant in computers and networks. Your feedback is kind and, also, I appreciate not being the only one to occasionally elaborate on the fortunes and misfortunes of life. Some may believe it is off-topic (it did happen to me, even though no one ever expressed an irritation about it : people here are most civilized) but I believe nothing belongs to a single compartment : trans-disciplinary paths are a thought's travel throughout many lands with always a bridge to link them!
