It's not exactly "suddenly", they've been sort of working on it since avast! 5 (I think that's when they first introduced Behavior Shield). But it wasn't useful back then, hopefully this one will be.
I bet HIPS in Avast comes out as nothing but passive HIPS like support for other modules...atleast in this version. Will see how its improvements & implementation further grows... but for now seems basic passive HIPS, passive in the sense..dont expect anything good for now in terms of realtime protection from HIPS itself.
It has been updated yesterday so yeah, it supports latest R3 release. And even if it wasn't, it would still work, it would just adjust values that are present. Those that aren't wil be left as they are.
Just tried the new File Shield HIPS function with both boxes checked, normal sensitivity. Wow, its a touchy little sucker. Two examples, Ultra Defrag has a boot scan. Attempting to disabling it resulted in a pop-up from Avast and I was not allowed to disable the boot scan. I use CleanMem on this XP system. Unticking the box for auto start up resulted in a message from Avast. Unacceptable was the Avast popups did not have an option allow or deny the modifications. Not a real big fan of HIPS, but I took RejZor's suggestion from above and unticked the 'Monitor the system for unauthorized modifications', kept the 'Monitor the system for malware-like behavior' checked and increased the sensitivity to high. So far not a peep for any installed programs. Cheers!
I am testing Avast! 2015 with RejZoR settings and so far I am impressed, very light and unobtrusive. I saw that Avast installed a extension (Online Security) in Chrome, is it worth to keep? I already use Ublock Origin anyway ...
No,it is realy not worth. I would do a costum install for avast and uninstall all unwanted bloat. U realy just need web and realtime protection+ng,when compatible. Maybe E-mail protection if u use a e-mail client too.
@RejZoR - a question for you and anyone else using Hardened mode - Aggressive in Avast. do you bother using an anti-executable with Avast set like this? Avast is basically doing the same thing as an AE, but with a massive predefined whitelist.
i use Hardened mode - Aggressive and i have added VoodooShield on a few machines - seems like it might be overkill. starting to think i could drop VS and just use Secure Folders to restrict the User space & get the same coverage
Hi all AVAST 2015 R3 SP1 (2015.10.3.2225) The Link is updated to https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=174286.0
Is there any way to block pop-ups in free version? I keep getting daily pop-up to install Google Chrome and i don't want to
I've unlinked my avast! from My Account and I've registered it without any e-mail. I seem to get A LOT less popups now. Unless if they just changed this behavior though based on your words, not likely scenario...
