Thanks, but the Amazon site states that it is not compatible with my device, which is a Kindle Fire HDX. I don't know what is going on. The Avast forum will not reply to my query as to the compatibility.
    Regards,
    Jerry

My Kindle is an HD 7 with a humble dual core and the Amazon version of Android 4.0.3. Your Kindle probably uses a version of Android 4.4, that must be the problem but it's still weird. Meanwhile I would recommend the free version of ESET which is great if you don't mind updating the database manually.

Amazon is planning to move to Lollipop and that should bring better overall compatibility:

Many thanks, vojta. I think that ESET is the way to go when my subscription for Trend Micro expires. I did find a 6 month license on ebay and got it for $1.04. I just activated it and it worked fine.
    Thanks, again,
    Jerry

The only Real Time Scanner I know of for a Kindle Fire HDX in the Amazon Store is Webroot. There are both free and Premium editions in the Amazon Store. Don't recall the difference, but the Premium is $4.99. As far as I have read, all the other AVs for HDX will scan, but not protect your HDX in real time like blocking a malicious download or warning you are asking to visit a phising website or one known to have housed malware. Kindle HDX is not cheap and seems to be worth $4.99 for good real time protection.

There appears to be several methods of downloading an app from the Google Play Store to your PC and then transferring it to your Kindle Fire. I don't have a link handy, but a Google search will give you many results.

    Hi hawki,

I am curious as to the source of that information. I don't doubt it, but was not aware that was the case. I would have thought that eset would do so.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Hi Jerry :)

Read the descriptions. Download them and try them. 90% of them are free. If you find out differently I like to know.

Another possible exception is Malwarebytes-it's free, and I run it with Webroot with no issues.

    Hi hawki,

From some comments I have the impression that they are free to try, but then you have to buy. I know that is the case with Trend Micro.
Thanks for the reply. I do desire one that is active when surfing.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Jerry Trend Micro is an exception. Almost all are free and stay free. Many have commented that Trend should not be allowed to be listed as free.
