Yep, I am for that one. Of course the key to that is actually imaging first.

Hence my willingness to jump on the Macrium Reflect bandwagon now at 10% discount instead of waiting for a 20% discount to show up. :)

My wife's Win7 Pro laptop is imaged but has failed W10 upgrade about 8-10 times in Windows Update. Since Win8 systems seem less problematic, I've gone ahead with the Win8 Pro upgrade that we got from MS when we bought her laptop. Still in process of updating the activated Win8 Pro. Then (after another image) we'll see how it makes out with the Win10 upgrade - will post results in case others find this path less stressful.

On my second machine, a HP laptop, I have Intel RST Service not running and IAStorDataSvc using about 20% CPU. If I set RST Service to Manual the CPU usage drops to almost 0%.

    Any ideas on this?

Been following that thread. Thanks, Brian.

Although the sticker on bottom of wife's laptop has key for Win 7 Pro, for some reason the downgrade we took from WIndows 8 Pro back in late 2012 resulted somehow in a Win7 Home Premium install with different key. So, the other motivation for rolling through upgrade/update to Win8/8.1 Pro is getting the Win10 Pro edition instead of just Win10.

    Krusty13,

My Intel RST service is Running, Automatic (Delayed Start). I don't have IAStorDataSvc.

Change your Intel RST to Running, Automatic (Delayed Start). It is the default on several of my computers.

Does that fix the CPU %

Yep, can't argue with that. :thumb: However, after the same thing happened on another one of my machines, I started thinking that this anomaly can't be that complicated. Turns out it wasn't and I feel pretty doggone stupid for not realizing the likely culprit in the first instance ------> EMET! Turns out, IE 11 didn't care for EAF or EAF+ being checked. Unchecked those boxes for iexplore.exe and......voila!

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 on an old Toshiba laptop. The install completed with no problems. Once Windows 10 loaded, two devices were missing drivers, and there was only a generic display driver installed. Windows Update found no driver updates.

After I installed the missing drivers and updated the video driver with DriverToolit (other driver update software found no updates - I think its an issue with Windows 10), I started having serious audio latency issues. I had expereinced the same issue when I installed the preview of Windows 10, and in the past I had fairly minor latency issues under Windows 8. After doing a system restore to a point prior to install the updates, and then installing the display driver again. I found that problems started again once the driver was installed. When I changed the resolution from the maximum of 1920 x 1200 to 1024 x 768, which is what the generic display driver was using, the latency issues stopped. I installed a slightly older beta video driver from the nVidia site, and that solved the problems, even at maximum resolution.

Windows 10 is running fine now. I had to disable real time protection in Windows Defender, as it was slowing down my computer a lot.

As far as 80240020 error is concerned, the instructions in the article aren't correct. Deleting of the contents of the folder Download doesn't help because "... there is no problem with your reservation or upgrade download. The upgrade download is not corrupt as some have stated, and you will be notified in the coming days or weeks when your device is ready to upgrade." If you don't want to wait for the upgrade you can modify registry as per instruction by Microsoft staff here and initiate the upgrade instantly.

I forced a d/l of Win 10 yesterday and it failed at 99% with two generic error messages, however I do have in the root of C the folder $Windows.~BT. Opening that up there is a setup file and if I run that then it says if cannot find "boot.wim".

    Any ideas please.

@djg05 You can't start setup from the $Windows.~BT folder. What errors did you get?

Thanks - as I said, cannot find boot.wim.

I copy the folder over to another partition but the same happened. Thought I might be able to make this into an iso but did not suceed.

@djg05 Sorry, I thought you said you had the install of Windows 10 had failed at 99%. You will need to use the Media Creation Tool.

Has anyone else noticed Microsoft Edge being extremely slow in opening applications or loading web pages or is it just me? Sometimes it takes ten to thirty seconds to open webpages with the dreaded spinning circle. Any ideas?

Has anyone had trouble with changing a setting in Windows Update? I'm trying to disable that thing that sends updates to more than one place. When I go to "Choose how updates are delivered" and click on the on/off switch, the UAC prompt (which tells me to press Ctrl/Alt/Del first) comes up but it's completely unresponsive. I can't even cancel the prompt and have to close Settings entirely.

It worked fine for me when I changed it on my upgrade.. but after my clean install yesterday, I decided to just leave the defaults.... I didn't get any UAC prompt either...

I have a question regarding flashing the BIOS after a clean install of W10, e.g. A hardware component that worked flawlessly under the previous OS is not working well or at all under W10, however the OEM has provided a BIOS flash for that PC model/make to have the hardware work properly under W10. Also the hardware manufacturer recommends the same firmware upgrade for W10.

If I deploy the recommendation to flash the BIOS under W10 and the problem has not been fixed to my satisfaction, will going back to the previous OS be compromised? From a solution point of view, I know that the image of the previous OS will not be in play here, because the change is being made at the physical level.

    It should be okay.
A bios upgrade should add features and it should be cumulative.
