Yes, I have been reading a lot there recently, and now that you mention it, that sounds familiar... I'm sure that in time, people will figure out how to work around almost everything. So far I'm liking 10 a lot though, as much as I liked 7, and more than 8 or 8.1.

Yes, ways will be found to get around in Windows 10 just as was done in previous versions of Windows. I like 10 a lot too, and it's only two days old :) It will continue to get better over time.

Even that seems slow TBH, might be worth troubleshooting.

For comparison, my 3rd gen i7 Windows 8.1 machine boots in 8 seconds, and my i5 520m Windows 7 Dell boots in 12 seconds.

It adds/removes free space at the end if the recovery partition isn't there.

Still not activating...been trying every 5 mins for hours...got a desktop watermark to activate Windows...heh.

    I agree.

I tried that method and after 12 hours it got to 99% and failed with errors

    80070057
    80240020

These seem to be generic error codes and cannot find anything specific.

    Can anyone help please.

A friend had the same 0% experience. It worked later from Win8.1.

Yes, create an ISO from your folder with ESD Decryter. Then use Rufus to create a UFD. It should work although I haven't tried it that way.

Following my previous problem upgrading and then finding my dual monitor driver wasn't working correctly, I am now wondering if it is possible to upgrade with a dual boot system to enable me to still use Win 7 for my dual monitor to work but also have the option to boot with Win 10 to get used to it and maybe find a way to get the dual monitor to work correctly in my free time.

My concern is the licence situation may not allow an upgraded operating system to run on the same computer.

Any information, if possible, or guides how to do this would be most welcome.

No problems with an independent multi-boot using BootIt Bare Metal.

You can image the Win7 system. Install BIBM. Upgrade Win7 to Win10. Install Win10 to free space. Restore the Win7 image to free space. Then you have a triple boot using BIBM. All OS are Activated.

Also you can go to the graphic's card sight and re download the driver. I had to do that for my audio card. One of the major reasons Win 10 is just play for me, but I won't install it permenently

Thanks Peter, the strange thing is I had an optional graphics driver for the Intel WDDM1.1 and WDDM1.2 that appeared in my Win 7 updates and when I installed this I then found that it broke my dual monitors resolution setting. I have hidden that update now but then the Win 10 upgrade must have had that driver included. That's why I will need to do more research to see if there is another driver for my Dell 790 that will then allow my second monitor to be set at the correct resolution rather than the very basic VGA resolution that can't be changed when using either the updated Intel driver for Win 7 or the driver that came with Win 10.

That is to me the biggest problem with Win 10. In 7 I have all the hardware updates hidden, but in 10 it's tough.

Not sure if you are referring to this, but you can disable the automatic update of drivers.

I ran the disk cleanup utility this morning, and nuked my windows.old directory/files among other things. Then I decided to step thru all the menus and items in Settings.. quite a lot there to configure. I turned off just about everything I thought was unnecessary, and stopped the windows updates using other people's machines (the p2p aspect) and set it to just get updates from MS. Turned off microphone and camera stuff, anything I thought might be a privacy invasion or something I didn't want or need. I think I have it all set now, and made an image with Macrium.

After going thru all the settings, I came away with a distinct impression that with Win 10, Microsoft was trying to turn my desktop/laptop into a cell phone... Lol...

I'll go with it for now, and see what I think after a week or two... :)
