I purchased an inexpensive ASUS W8.1 notebook for traveling. Although I have the exact sandboxie settings on both it and my x64 W7 SP1 PC, the # does not show up in any program that is sandboxed, however, the border is visible if I select that option. The other thing that is different is when closing sandboxed programs, such as browsers, on the PC, the Sandboxie icon in the notification area flashes the red X (signifying the sandbox has been deleted) but not on the notebook. I do miss that feature! I do realize that W8.1 doesn't really have a separate notification area like W7.
Of course, all of this may be out the window (no pun intended) when W10 comes down the pike anyway. Thank you for any observations!

Ratchet, for the # pound sign to show up in a sandboxed program, the Windows title has to be displayed by the program. No Window title, no # sign on top.

About not seeing the red X when you close the sandboxed program, sounds to me like you have not set the sandbox to delete on closing. By default, new sandboxes are not set to delete automatically when you close sandboxed programs.

if both settings files are 100% same there wont be any difference in behavior. i do copy that file when settings up windows (happend last week).

i can not speak for the app desktop, there is no taskbar, but if program is running in desktop mode you will see the same desktop with the same taskbar like windows 7 (ofc with windows 8 style if you haven't modified this or using another styler like window blinds or similar).

maybe you should post here your two setting files.

    Cheers
