    Thanks!

I don't see it on my Windows partition, so I'm probably not in the first wave.

Are these files system/version specific or can I use them to upgrade other PC's?

All of them have genuine Windows installed (some OEM, some Retail), but some will upgrade to the regular version and others to Pro. I might speed things up by copying the download from the first that finished downloading?

The OEM provides all the driver and updates for their value-add utilities for this device, so yes I do rely on them for this support. I do not rely on MS for driver updates as they are often out of date or generic. That makes me an idiot and I should not be a participant on this forum. Why don't you issue a complaint to the moderator to have me banned asap as my contributions to this forum are without merit - make it apparent that I am not astute enough to be here.
Note: W10 EULA, read it. The laptop has been deemed EOL by the OEM.

Folder suddenly appeared on my Windows 8.1 Pro partition, but it is only 3.79 GB and not growing.

Worse: Windows corrupted my (Acronis) boot manager today, directly booting Windows without the chance to select another OS.

I've haven't got the folder yet. While the computer is mostly used without an internet connection, it was connected to the internet for about 7 hours yesterday.

I don't think this is new information for most but it does provide MSFT's strategy, including a video presentation from a MSFT exec to enterprise partners. The site has it dated in mid June. I hadn't seen it before.

I don't; I go to the manufacturer of the device needing the driver; OEMs stop updating them very quickly and I'd be left with outdated drivers--especially audio and video. USB to a lesser extent. PC OEMs only repackage what the device OEM gives them.

OEM utilities are usually bloat unless there are special buttons or whatever unique to that device that could be a problem but if there are, there are usually user-fixes if the device is popular enough (had that issue with my old hp tc1100 tablet and getting the latest GeForce drivers for it...just needed a vendor code hack).

I don't know why you said that; I wasn't being ascerbic. Perhaps I was vague. I was trying to point out that anyone savvy enough to be on this forum will know more about supporting a PC than the guy on the other end of the phone providing OEM support; hence, not needing OEM support.

Some users may be able to force start the upgrade process using an elevated command prompt:
    Code:
    wuauclt.exe /updatenow
It's working for some users while not working for others, possibly dependent on how the waves are rolling out. You can also try checking Windows Updates again after running this command.

On my Win 7 64 Home Premium Windows Updates completed 100% & installed 1 update on shutdown.

Under C:\$Windows.~BT - There are files/folders total app 4.85 GB.
Under Sources - Install.esd is app 2.63 GB.

Now what about Win 10 install?

Isn't it supposed to notify or let you know when it's ready? If it hasn't notified you, it's probably not ready....

You can also force Windows to download and install the update with Essential Update Manager.

Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro is listed as an optional update after checking for updates. You will probably end up getting a message saying the update failed. But, if you reboot and launch Essential Update Manager again and then do the search for updates, and then try to install Windows 10 again, (you may have to do this more than once), you will end up getting the upgrade notification Window asking you if you want to install Windows 10.

Although the home page for Essential Update Manager says it is just a free trial version, it is actually a fully functional free version. you don't have to buy it.

Yes, but not everyone will get the update straight away.

Right... I guess I'm thinking that messing with things too early could just cause more trouble than not. I've had it for a week or so already from the insiders preview, so I'm not expecting much tomorrow, or anytime soon, other than an update... but who knows....

Can I use ISO to upgrade...activate...& then clean install?

Thanks for the tip about Essential Update Manager. It was able to pull in the Windows 10 installation files which were not coming through on one of my computers.

Just to update my post on using Essential Update Manager to upgrade. Once the upgrade notification window appears and you click accept, shortly afterwards the window will close and Essential Update Manager will say that the update has failed to install.

At this point, do not restart (which I did) as the Windows is still getting ready for the upgrade. If you don't reboot, you will soon see another window giving you the option to upgrade, and if you select to start upgrading, Windows will reboot and upgrade to Windows 10.

By rebooting too soon it caused some serious problems, causing Winodws Update to launch everytime I started Windows and prompt me to reboot. Also, I was not able to start the upgrade process again. I eventually fixed the issue (System Restore did not help) by deleting the C:\$Windows.~BT folder and then running the Windows Update repair in tweaking.com's System Repair. Now I am downloading Windows 10 again with Essential Update Manager. Quite possibly deleting the install folder was not needed, and all that was needed was to repair Windows Update.

I'm glad it worked for you. Just don't get impatient and reboot when EUM says the update has failed, as I did - see my previous post.

This one must be the best spyware version of Windows. It is able to collect what you type in search box and your voice with cortana and more, i assume?

If you have to use this spyware, please use it offline and don't ever allow it to make connection. I don't understand why people still use this ~snip~ instead of GNU/Linux.
