Yep. Lots of instances... and like the poster you quoted, this patch also turned off the rootkit scanner in MBAM for me too.

More examples of problems with this update here...

    Issue with recent (KB3079904)
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/issue-with-recent-kb3079904-1021722.html

Security update KB3079904 caused all kinds of problems
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...kinds-of/ae1b4105-845f-49e3-997a-13938e8a59d7

There's a manual workaround described in the ghacks link you posted which involves renaming atmfd.dll in pre W8 systems and disabling the Adobe Type Manager on Windows 8 or later systems.

Presently, I have 3079904 on one machine and not the other. No matter what I try, installing that update on the other computer causes that machine to produce an "Optional update delivery is not working" dialog and validation errors.

Hopefully MS will re-issue a new patch for this crap.

Just FYI: I thought I'll take a shot at this renaming stuff. The listed commands don't exist on my XP (takeown and icacls executables), and any attempt at renaming atmfd.dll (and perhaps atmlib.dll) fails immediately since Windows quickly replaces with the original files. Too bad, because XP could use the patch or whatever. Perhaps that trick is for Vista.

There is more than one location for the file in question, and if you read further, you'll find more info on them. You have to rename all three, I think.
At the moment, I am not too concerned about the vulnerability, as MS says it's in the wild but no known cases of it exist.

Wow. I'm trying to repair damage caused by a recent Windows Update (3079904).

I ran System File Checker. It found files corrupt files, and was unable to repair them.
The corrupted files appeared in the CBS log as:

    telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json
    utc.app.json

A subsequent search of the two corrupted files led me to Microsoft confirms patch KB 3022345 breaks SFC /scannow .

Microsoft's take on this little corruption episode?

But "when a not-so-advanced user runs SFC", and that would be me, a lot of time gets wasted barking up a wrong tree, and the aggravation level gets ratcheted up a couple more notches.

I have located a procedure for fixing the two corrupted files, and I am doing it now. First I uninstalled KB 3022345. ;)

Edit in: If anybody is interested, I applied the fix found here --> Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files and it worked like a charm. I ran sfc a second time, and this time, no corruption... "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

Run the System File Checker again in a day or two. I ran this fix on five machines with apparent success, but the corruption reappeared shortly thereafter.

What a borkfest! I'm glad I've waited. I usually give it at least a fortnight before applying these borks/patches.

I read that after renaming, one should be careful about running SFC again "because SFC will attempt to replace the
missing files and will demand CD/DVD insertion if it fails to find them
". Sounds like a reasonable warning to me. Rather than run the SFC again, I would be inclined to simply look for the file to see if a new one had been regenerated.

I'll try to remember to report back on this issue a few days or a week after renaming.

Yeah, I can attest to that, if sfc finds a file missing, it does prompt/ask for your Win disk in an attempt to replace it. A nicer version would be if it just went out to the MS servers and grabbed it there.. :)

Please do. The thing is: when I ran SFC immediately after applying the fix, no discrepancy was reported. It's only some time later that the corruption reappeared. Puzzling to me.

Yesterday I received a survey from MS because I had recently contacted Microsoft Assisted Support chat. Boy, did I have fun with that questionnaire.

Interestingly, at the end of the survey I was asked what my favorite form of contact was. I checked telephone, then clicked NEXT, thinking there would be a field for entering my contact info. Instead, MS thanked me for taking the survey, and never asked for my phone number. Oh well, what was I thinking? They were going to call me and offer help?

Here running Windows Update for Win 7 x64 showed as well Kb2952664 and Kb3075851 - I had already hidden Kb2952664 but it showed again, so I hid it again. Strange thing is that if I have a look at Hidden updates shown by the Windows Update Panel Kb2952664 appears twice! (sorry, local is FRench) :

    HiddenUpdates-2015-07-26.jpg

It's becoming a hassle to be obliged now on Windows Update to check every time to differentiate what is a security update from one of those "getting ready for Windows 10" pain in thee neck. Would be nice to be able to send a clear message to the company as "Stop it - When I decide to install Windows 10 i'll call you. Menwhile please be as so kind as to move off. I would write "move off" rather than one of those weird alternatives. I'd keep the alternative for my thoughts.

    PallMall,
    Belarc Advisor only reports Security.

Yeah... I used the Belarc Advisor several years ago. Then appeared a buzz as to privacy concerns (a buzz is not evidence) but also a mick-mack showed up when Belarc displaued a missing update which seemed incorrect. That was perhaps 10 years ago, with good old XP. We were young strong handsome. Now we try to be wise(r) :)

    Kb2952664 and Kb3075851 Updates.
Kb2952664 I did hide as well as I mentioned above, but I did install the latter, Kb3075851. After trying to get information and still hesitated...

This update also resolves an issue in which certain Windows Update operations fail when you install Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: July 2015 (3065987) on Windows 7 Embedded editions. according to Microsoft Support

I'd appreciate your comments on this MS Support description, it doesn't seem related to Windows 10 (I mean implicitly because explicitly it is not). What does this darn update exactly perform, take care of? Any ideas? Microsoft is rather vague if not evasive when it comes to explaining.
