    hi
i had samsung Magician 4.5 and it doesn't find updates, everytime i check for update ,it told me it's updated
so i download from the homepage 4.6 , i warns me about new firmware and it enabled advanced optimization , it takes a lot to be complete
but what does the advanced performance optimization do ? move files
and when should be used the advanced performance optimization ?
only in case of degrade or every x months?
    Thanks Anon!

Because it uses too high a density of TLC. SSD should not be pushed beyond MLC.

    Thank Anon
but let's think about this scenario
you own 2 ssd , on the first ssd you have w8 installed and on the second sdd w7
you are working with w8 so the second ssd is idle and start to perform an internal Optimization
you shut down your pc while the second ssd idle is performing its internal optimization ,what could be happen ?
    lost of data?

    I have another scenario:
You own 4 ssd , on the first ssd you have w10 installed, on the second sdd w8.1, on the third ssd w7, on the forth ssd w vista....... :p

    To answer your question:
    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/contact
You better ask the Samsung support.

Anon , 4.6 has feature only for 840 evo , no for 840 and 850 evo , right?
by the way it's weird that even samsung mag. even checks for update at every startup , the 4.5 doesn't find any update
    thanks Anon cheers

I don't believe that is used any longer, mantra. Rather, you upgrade to the latest firmware and run Advanced Performance Optimization in the latest version of Magician (see screenshot).

The standalone tool is available in the following link. Release date was around Oct 2014 with version 1.1.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/get/samsung_840_evo_performance_restoration_tool,1.html

However Prius04 is correct. Standalone tool has been integrated into the Magician 4.6, then click advanced to run the optimisation process.

we end up having the most complaints about the samsung ssd's from clients. we have for the time stopped selling them. i know about the software and firmware updates (we are a retailer) my tried and true intel drives are still my fav's even though maybe not quite as fast. they have been rock solid imo.

From what I've read these issues are limited to the EVO and not the Pro.

while we do not see the same issues much with the 850 we still had a high failure rate with those as well. @mantra mostly reliability we had many that had issues.

Finally there have been 2 new updates regarding the broken Samsung SSDs. You can read about it here. The problem is described to be related to the Linux kernel:

As an 840 EVO user, I did the firmware update that was offered some year ago, then I also did the "Advanced Performance Optimization" that was offered some months ago, and today, things are just as slow as they used to be with this crapware.

People used to laugh at me when I advised them not to buy any TLC based SSD. It's not too late now to quit buying such devices. MLC is more reliable and durable. Compared to the Samsung EVO (TLC crap), many MLC ssds are not more expensive, or even cheaper sometimes.

If you're planning on buying, check NewEgg and other sites, they'll tell you in the specs.
