Good article except for the author's last line that I find to be totally misleading:

"And the way to preserve it is by establishing rules of the road that let ISPs, consumers and innovators know what's allowed and what's not allowed on the Net."

It could mislead a reader into believing that the Ruling by The FCC provides for regulating the content allowed on the net, which was a common "bogey man" of those who fought against Net Neutrality. The "rules of the road" apply to the behaviors of ISPs - not what content is allowed on the Net.

what's "progress"? sound like "change" - means whatever you want it to mean

 

Right now, in the US, it is absolutely necessary if you want decent access to basic social services. It's not a matter of "change", it's a matter of "can I get my social security checks etc."

 

It makes sense that it's considered a 'necessity' as it was spawned from other 'necessities'. And of course, it will give birth to new 'necessities'. Necessity is an attractive ingredient in the mix to advocate controlling, or to be more exact, taking other people's stuff. It gives a patina of justification if one doesn't use their reading glasses.

I wonder if Net Neutrality will ever be rescinded? Doubtful. Another brick in the wall.
