It seems our retail Win7/8 turns into an OEM version of Win10.

MS now naming spokespersons for W10. Celebs and recognizable Sports 'Heroes' usually get the nod ... Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR) has been signed up.

Jerry Seinfield failed as a pitchman and so did Family Guy. Maybe it was too US centric. Does MS not have a world wide understanding? NASCAR have 'security' in common, but can not see that being the focus of the message with this pairing. NASCAR is totally US centered and the rest of the world has no idea what they are all about. Who would best represent MS on the global stage as a W10 Spokesperson?

With only 1 month before the RTM my guess is that the next build for the insiders would probably be the (Drumroll)...... RTM.

There's expected to be a leak of 10154 very soon. That is, not official. But hopefully something official will come along soon.

I'm a bit puzzled about the latest developments of MS. Not long ago they came up with Win 8 which I think is a great OS. Very shortly afterwards, Win 8.1 was offered as a free upgrade, presumably to quell all arguments about the new metro gui (I personally like it). Oddly enough metro still exists in Win 8.1, then why Win 8.1? and such a mammoth upgrade to produce virtually a clone of Win 8...

Now enter Win 10 (I tested it briefly), and still it doesn't offer anything really new compared to Win 8 / 8.1, and wait, it comes free if you reserve it! So in the end what gives? Why this urgency to generate new OSs if MS is not even selling them...

For those who may not know yet, licences for Windows 10 Professional are $2 US or $2.49 Canadian.

You have to clean install 10158 and Skip product key entry and both places. Once installed, go to Settings modern app. At the very bottom there is a link that says "Windows is not activated. Activate Windows now". Click that and it opens Store app right to a legit page to buy Windows 10 Pro for $2.

    and bada bing, bada boom...

This is worth taking advantage of, for sure. :thumb:

    Earth .... occasionally
    .... my edit above

It will also come free , sooner or later , even if you don't reserve it ..... believe it !

For months now , MS have been pumping out what is essentially adware , in the form of so-called "updates".
After all that effort and expense , MS are certain to be going after all the W7 and W8 users who have chosen not to move to W10.

Read what WildByDesign discovered ( in post #1041 above )..... " Windows 10 Pro for $2."

I reckon that later this year they will be paying people to install it ! .... maybe not with money , but with various " Freebies "
    and "Trinkets , and " Shiny Things " .

    And I still won't want it !

A free iso download that I can easily run in a VM ?
.....well that might get my attention , so long as my existing Product Key remains valid , but until then .... no thanks M$ .

From my understanding, OEM users who qualify for Home/Standard can upgrade for $1 to Pro. The one that I am referring to isn't an upgrade licence. This is intended for users who don't have a qualitying licence or who are running non-genuine Windows.

For those who took easily to Windows 8 the changes in 8.1 may seem insignificant, but they made a big difference for those who struggled with the dual desktop/metro UI. The purpose of Windows 10 is not to remove Metro (aka Modern, whatever) but to further the integration between the Modern apps and Desktop. IIRC the original intent of MS was to create an OS that would be unified across all the different computer form factors, eg desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile phone, etc, so that users could more easily move between all of these devices. Windows 10 takes another step in that direction and that's what's new.

I thought these users were just out of luck and had to pay the full price like the users who have windows XP..

I wonder if there will be a way to do this when upgrading from "7" through Windows Update?

To pay the $1 upgrade fee from Home to Pro, Yes. But to straight up buy licences for $2 for Pro, probably not. I have a feeling it is aimed toward piracy, suggesting users who have non-genuine to have low cost legal method.

I believe that this special $2 Pro licence is specifically tied to a Microsoft Account which is not too surprising, unfortunately.

So it sounds like the option to upgrade to Pro for $1 will be available through the Windows Store after upgrading from 7 to 10; is that correct?
