Does anyone have any non-obvious tips on discovering how old a downloaded file is? One is to look at "First submission" date at VirusTotal.

    @ MrBrian

Can you perhaps bring back the old layout?

You mean everything on one page, or something else?

That is available also. Below the index is a link named "See all items in one massive list."

The page layout has become a bit "wider", but I just realize it's probably because of a global redesign of Gizmo.

If it is an executable file, you can check its compilation timestamp. It is more reliable than the standard file creation or modification timestamps, as it does not get reset by merely downloading, copying, touching, or archiving a file.

Most forensic or analysis suites are able to display this timestamp, and I even happen to have a tiny command-line tool on own my website that just dumps compilation timestamps out of executable files (EXE, DLL). Look for Pestamp at http://trax.x10.mx/apps.html.

@svenfaw: Good one, thanks :). Or more generally, various metadata fields embedded within the file.

Well it might not no longer have any linking but i still have the installer for EQSysSecure 3.41 along with a batch of Alcyon's rules for pinpoint granularity purposes. Haven't been on XP for over a year now but i have every HD it was installed on and when i get another box will be digging thru those for all the cool security apps still there :)

I added links to v3.41 and that ruleset. The program hash seemed legit. Thank you for the tip :).

Sorry for the inactivity guys, we just have our own things going on in life. I've finally got to updating the list yesterday, and will try to (semi-)actively contribute from now on.

Feel free to comment on the changes, what else to include, and whatnot.

I need your opinions on removing the "Software and Services" section. I personally think it's too much redundant work better served by visitors viewing other Gizmos articles.

Unfortunately, MrBrian is MIA, and both ako and I are busy with work. If possible, we'd like to request a new helper to join us. Thank you.
