Several different 'spins' or desktops are available. https://spins.fedoraproject.org/ Fedora Magazine highlights changes in 22 from 21 here: http://fedoramagazine.org/fedora-22-released/ I'm downloading the Mate version right now.
I had been running Fedora with Gnome and with KDE in Virtualbox VMs. In both cases the upgrade with fedup worked flawlessly For the KDE (actually Plasma5) spin I had to disable 3D acceleration in Virtualbox, though, to make the desktop load properly. I had noticed that behavior for Kubuntu 15.04 and openSuSe Tumbleweed before. There is obviously an incompatibility. I hope it will be fixed in Virtualbox 5.
The Cinnamon desktop you get when you download it from the Fedora repository is a mix and match with whatever you started with as opposed to complete Cinnamon. I found a from the bottom up complete Cinnamon spin here: https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Fedora/Cinnamon_desktop#f22_Cinnamon_live_spin https://6c64c3f9afcdac5897ebbcc6b26.../0B43TWusVEw7BZW5FeTM4UU5OTlk/spins-cinnamon/ The 22 image in the 2nd link was updated when 22 final was released. This is the same thing you get when you boot up Mint. A really great piece of work by the developer Dan Book. There is supposed to be an official Cinnamon spin for 23 but why wait if you are comfortable with Cinnamon. There is an issue with Chrome and SELinux where SELinux won't let Chrome write to the OS for plugins. I dismiss the error message and it doesn't seem to cause any noticeable problem. I did try KDE which is visually stunning but I don't have any experience with it and it was confusing to me but that's me not the spin.
After the first updates to F22 dnf yum started to come back that there were errors in searching for dependencies. Then it started to boot to an error message that I could get past but it was aggravating. So I reinstalled the Cinnamon spin and did some searching before I reached that first 'error searching for dependencies'. What I found was after the first error message from dnf yum I had to go to the terminal then sudo dnf clean all Then sudo dnf distro-sync - this downloaded 416 upgrades and new packages and all has been well since then. There were new SELinux policies also which cured the Chrome problem.
Fedora 22 review - Fiascoed Here's a largely negative review of Fedora 22 Twenty-Two 64-bit Workstation edition with the Plasma desktop, covering live session, installation, and some post-install checks, including Wireless (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth, Samba sharing and printing, partitioning, updates, easyLife, UEFI & hardware compatibility problems, failed boot, and more. Not much more really. Enjoy, sort of. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/fedora-22-kde.html Cheers, Mrk
Well, I'm running it in Virtualbox without any problem. No nVidia driver, of course, and no samba in usage, so it's not really comparable with yout test scenario. However, I was really impressed how smoothly the upgrade from v. 21 to 22 worked with fedup. I had expected problems due to the transition from KDE 4 to Plasma 5 but there were none. BTW, I find it a bit unfair to critisize them for replacing yum with dnf as this had been announced long before.
