I rebuilt my system from scratch a couple of weeks ago, using a brand new 250GB SSD [SanDisk SDSSDHP256G (256.06 GB)] as system disc. I have a couple of other mechanical discs in the machine for data etc. I started with a clean installation of a properly-licensed retail copy of Win7 Professional 64bit, with 12GB of memory. I have used HDM for a number of years. I wanted to take an image of the new system installation, and check the configuration of the mechanical discs [which have a number of partitions]. On starting HDM, I see that the system partition is labelled "invalid". Windows backup failed to create a system image. Belarc and Windows report no problems with the disc, but I am obviously worried. Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks I tried the solution set out in the article, using the Windows interface. Unfortunately, the "Shrink" function in WDM reports no available shrink space, even though there is 168GB free on the disk. I'm assuming that this is because one of the system files (for example, the paging file or the shadow copy storage area) cannot be automatically relocated. I have moved the page file to another physical disk, but still cannot shrink the volume. I don't feel confident about using a DOS command line, as I am worried I may cause irreparable damage due to lack of in-depth knowledge of DOS [ been a very long time since I used it]. Has anyone any suggestions?
Belated thanks to both of you! I got sick and couldn't give this my attention for a while, but I got back to it today and thought I'd report back on success. In the end, I used Partition Wizard Free to shrink and then restore the size of the system partition. All is good now with the partition showing up as it should do in Paragon. Once again, many thanks for your help, both.
