VERY scary stories. I have to admit it scares the shxt out of me, so I promptly signed up an account on IRS.gov. I can sleep well tonight.

Thank you Ron for this important info.

Good move. Criminals don't care who they steal from and they are everywhere these days.

I signed up a while back, because I needed transcripts from the past. Good to know though.

Thank you ronjor ~~ need to know info. :thumb:

    So, the premise is...
I create an account and therefore 'crook' will not be able to.
That would presume IRS systems are 100+% effective.
    Systems that were hacked....

    According to this: https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/05/27/data-breaches-wreak-havoc/

the necessary data to perform the attacks was likely obtained from the large-scale breaches that have happened.

It's against the backdrop of 10,000 IRS jobs being cut since 2010, making good systems for protection of data highly unlikely.

Doubtless that budget saving and more has gone direct to the TLAs, which do such a wonderful job at protecting our security.

Banksters go free. But do not worry about your tax info being stolen. The DOJ is doing the important work:
    FIFA
    Whistleblowers
    Medical Marijuana

So, I requested transcripts. #1 How does this stop someone filing fraudulent return.

There is no account signup section on the irs.gov website.

Received requested Transcripts today by snail mail. Transcripts contain all required for anyone to file a faux return. Not clear how Transcripts prevent 'other' from filing faux return.
