    Hello,

Recently my laptop crashed and I had to replace it. Unfortunately part of the data on the hard drive was not backed up at the time the laptop crashed. The operating system is windows 7.

The hard drive is still functioning properly. I can connect it to my new laptop using a connector. I am able to mount the system partition without preboot authentication and I can see all files on the C: partition. Unfortunately the relevant data is on the D: partition and I cannot find this one. In truecrypt a large part of the storage capacity of the drive is marked as free space while I would expect the D: partition should be there. I am not entirely sure but I think I first encrypted the D: partition and afterwards encrypted the system drive. I far as I understand it, the D: drive is auto-mounted on startup.

    I have tried the following:
    - Mounting all partitions shown in the overview in truecypt. I was only successful in mounting the system partition.
    - Booting from the hdd with my new laptop. I managed to get to the point where I can enter my password and then start up (normal mode and safe mode, tried both). Unfortunately after a short glimps of a bluescreen startup stopped and my regular OS took over (Windows 8 ).
    - I have copied the iso of the truecrypt rescuedisk on a usb flash drive and booted from that one, with in another USB port the hdd from the old laptop. I think this worked but it did not provide a solution so far. Most likely I am missing something here
    - Browsed all truecrypt threads on this forum, but did not find a solution or did not recognize it as a solution. I have limited software skills on this subject.

I hope there is someone who can help me find the D: partition. I would expect this to be possible but I have not found the right way.

If you need any additional information please let me know.

    Thanks!

do you have a backup of the encrypted volume header of D:? If you do then just restore it. It appears the volume header might be corrupted during the power outage.

    Oliverjia,

    Thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately I do not have a backup of the encrypted volume header. I have tried mounting with the option "Use backup header embedded in volume if available" but also no result.

Is there a way to check whether this is the problem and is there another way to restore the volume header?

Sorry not sure how to test what exactly is the problem. Without a backup of the header I am not sure what to do now. Maybe someone with more knowledge could chime in to help.

    Good luck.
