so like everyone I watch Youtube.
While using Chrome to watch Youtube I noticed adds that were based on my Bookmarks.

I always get the "Clear Your Criminal Record For Life" add, even though I deleted all bookmarks related to that subject.
    Don't ask! ;)

I installed Vivaldi this morning for a test and sure enough, that add follows me even with Vivaldi.
Which probably means I have been tagged in some database out there, using perhaps my machine ID.

I don' t know about you but I find this a little distressing and way too personal.
I tried all kind of settings inside Chrome to no avail.

I don't get those adds using Internet Explorer.
It' s probably the way I set up my privacy settings inside IE but I have decided to uninstall Chrome for the time being.

those targeted and personalized adds hit way too close to home for my liking.

edit: I noticed this thread should probably have been posted in one of the Privacy forum.
Please mods, move this thread if appropriate...

I pretty much have all ads blocked, inlcluding youtube. The web is a much more pleasant place without advertising.

Chrome is not a very privacy friendly browser and it is ad friendly. What else would you expect from Google.

I don' t mind adds in general.
Most websites have to make money to stay alive.
it's the invasion of privacy I find objectionable.

and it' s not like we have too many choices when it comes to using a browser that has its own sandbox.

it's either Chrome or IE and their derivatives. ;)

What I don't like is going to youtube watching a video an mechanical keyboards then going to their home page to do a search on something else and finding mechanical keyboards on their homepage instead of what is newly uploaded that I might want to see.

Will you please tell me in which country it's registered/based? I did search at its site but the info wasn't specific/absolute (at least what I found). My impression from their site and forum is that they're a Russian entity.

That's correct. They come from Russia. Sorry to ask but does it matter for you?

Understand but you needn't be afraid. It's a highly trusted company with a lot of credits worldwide. Anyway it's your choice.

Thank you for the additional info. We'll have to agree to disagree regarding what criteria to consider before installing software into our machines/life.

    yes I have.
    it did not help.

IE does not have this issue.
the adds IE give me on Youtube are not personalized.

too bad because I think Chrome is the better browser.

    looking forward to Spartan.

These Channels ID's are very cumbersome to get around. The doubleclick.net Channel ID sets itself along with a host of other channel ID's in Chrome. If you manually block it [*.]doubleclick.net and delete the channel ID it won't come back but the google channel ID seems indestructible on Chrome.

I'd like to try Sparton also.
