Thanks for sharing MrBrian. I've checked my Scheduled tasks and disabled all tasks in Application Experience, Customer Experience Improvement Program and Setup\gwx. Will see if there will encounter any problems and if they stay disabled.

I have KB2952664 installed. There is no scheduled task created called DoScheduledTelemetryRun on my system (Win7 Sp1 32-bit). CEIP only has three tasks listed:

    Consolidator 2934 7/14/2009
    KernelCeipTask 3946 7/14/2009
    UsbCeip 3598 7/14/2009

I have IE9 and got this KB 3038314 on tuesday. I installed all MS Updates yesterday except for this one... 8314..because of problems that were reported.....
...........We don't know the full extent of the problem yet, but it appears the latest Internet Explorer patch prevents Internet Explorer 11 -- and possibly other versions of IE -- from installing Google and other search engines. And the problem may go beyond Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1 PCs.

Many IE11 customers are reporting on the Microsoft Answers Forum (andelsewhere) that the latest IE11 patch rollup, MS 15-032 KB 3038314, reports that it failed to install with error 80092004. Others say the download on that patch stalls at 11 percent and doesn't budge, or that the download kicks out at 11 percent with the same failed-to-install error message, code 80092004.

Curiously, those who report the installation error and check the Help/About setting in Internet Explorer 11 see that they're currently running Internet Explorer 11 "Update Versions: 11.0.18 (KB3038314)" -- which would seem to indicate that the patch was in fact installed. (The previous version of Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 is reported as "Update Versions: 11.0.17 (KB3032359).")

Ahh, ok. I had only skimmed the article and went looking for a task called DoScheduledTelemetryRun instead of Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser

Thanks for posting all this info. I am not very comfortable each time MS releases additional "optional" updates. Some are ok and some are real problems on my pc's. It's a case of trying to comprehend what it really is and determine if you need it, I guess. I currently have 25 "hidden" because I believe they were causing problems on my pc's. It seems to be trial and error. A good reason for making a backup each time before installing any updates. Backup, backup, backup!

I see another optional update today. KB 3022345 ---

'This update enables the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This tracking service collects data about functional issues in Windows'.

Oh dear, I've hidden this one as well.

I can't see it happening. Too many variables to guarantee perfect, timely patching for too many, software-diverse units.

I haven't seen that MS has invested exremely significant resources (or heard gnashing of teeth from third party entities) to forced auto-updates' ends.
