@Emre TINAZTEPE The updates and your meticulous attention to this thread is commendable (perhaps an understatement) to say the least. Wondering what your "hopefully near future" plans may be to put this app through the ringer with testing agencies that actually bother to test second opinion apps such as your obvious contenders to the throne---> Hitmanpro and Malwarebytes?

p.s. concession: too wordy. what's to do.

Tried several times today to update program thru the GUI. Always with this error: 'Zemana Antimalware has encountered an error and needs to close.'

Edit: 5/06 7:46pm Issue w/update was another of my security apps was blocking it.

I scan my computer with Hitman Pro showed a detection they were not false positives so I downloaded adwcleaner which removed a bunch of stuff. I think it would be great if Zemana buys this Adwcleaner and uses it in their own program. I don't even think the developer is still around.

But it definitely made me realize Hitman Pro is not worth it, because the free Adwcleaner picked up a bunch of stuff and Hitman only 1 thing and Zemana nothing.

    Different Anti-Virus/Malware detect different threats.
Also, the term "Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP)" is very unclear.
i.e. "Abc.." software is a PUP for one AV and legit for another.

Hitman detected one registry key. The other day it detected more than one and then some threats disappeared, but they were still there. Adwcleaner deleted them. What people want is an all in one. They don't want to be scanning their computer with every tool on the market.

There is a reason for that. A lot of the detections from AdwCleaner are for PUPs, which may be considered unwanted e.g. it may be software that gets bundled with other installers, but is not malicious or harmful in anyway. Also there seem to be a number of items which get deteted for no obvious reason. A good example of this is the driver update software DriverTookit. This is a program I have purchased, and I can see no reason for AdwCleaner to detect it - but it does.

I can confirm from using both HMP and Zemana that they are both excel at detecting threats. Quite possibly the items that they did no detect on your system were not actual threats

    That's good to know.

Anyway Hitman detected one bad key and that key was picked up by the free adwcleaner. It also picked up more threats. Sure they were threats. So what if it is a pup? They should detect pups too. Antivirus software does detect pups.

@metmichallica There have been 11 updates to AdwCleaner relased so far this year, which you can view here. Also, everytime you launch recent versions of AdwCleaner it downloads the latest definitions from the internet.

You might have other uses for the program, but it does something to be classified as that. I knew what a pup was a long time ago.

@metmichallica Try the link again, it works for me.

If you are referring about DriverTookit, I have never seen it bundled with other software. If it is, then that would be reason enough to classify it as a PUP. If it isn't, then there is absolutely no reason to classify it as a PUP.

ZAM is able to repair infected system files AFAIK, to what extent I don't know.

Me neither, I have never been infected with a bad virus. I am just kind of curious if it can.

Thanks a lot StillBorn that's because we all love ZAM here :)

Regarding the testing, we got in touch with some companies for testing ZAM and I think it will be done soon.

Exactly! ZAM can repair infected system files automatically without asking a question to the user.
