Added Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, tweaked to play nicely with Sandboxie and sandboxed processes. So far no apparent glitches and no slow down comparing the before & after adding MBAE. This is on my XP Pro setup.

On my Precision M6800 Mobile Workstation I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, and basically emulating the setup Wilders user Windows_Security uses... major props, your info. has been invaluable to getting me acclimated to this OS. Of course I have to have my Sandboxie, but a 4.x build. And my Comodo Firewall/D+ too, disabling the built in FW.

But as always, relying on the measures built into the OS first... trimming attack surface, vectors, and privileges. As I saw mentioned a page back or so, this should always be the backbone of any sound setup IMO.

  2. Comodo -> Sandboxie -> MBAE -> Safe Admin = no worries for malware IMO ;)

For sure. There are others I should be thanking too. I'll just thank this community as a whole because the list would be too extensive. It's made the learning curve a fraction of what it otherwise would be. And of course the mission never ends. I still learn new things about XP here and there and tweak accordingly.

Also I'm thinking about adding a real-time AV to Win7, as I just don't have as firm a grasp on it at this point that I have it sufficiently locked down as I do my XP setup. I only want resident file protection, no web scanning and other fluff (email protection, cloud crap, etc...). Less is more. I wish they still made things like Avira Free in the v5-6 days... what beautiful simplicity.

I know at one point people would recommend just running Windows Defender on Win7, but that was awhile back. I'd love advice on what AV's people are running/work well with Win7 32-bit. And keeping in mind my criteria as well offer recommendations without it turning into A vs. B comparisons.

I've just started using the new Avetix Free v5, for real time protection.

I use MSE with Windows 7. My needs for an AV are minimal. LUAs, locking down the system, imaging and data backkup are the security backbone. I could completely dispense with the AV but I prefer to have a minimal one that doesn't cost money to renew every year. None of my systems have ever been infected but I occasionally scan someone else's disk and find an infected file.

I spent weeks deciding on a realtime av and if so which one, eventually i decided on emsisoft anti-malware. I disabled all the things i didnt need.
I decided on emsisoft because they seems take privacy seriously and they seems to be good at finding malware.

    I'm still testing.

Agree 100% Solarlynx. I am running NVT again along with EAM, MBAE and Appguard, all running flawlessly. Yah I know, probably overkill.

My KAV license has expired. For the past 7 days I'm running F-Secure Safe :thumb: with Hitman Pro and MBAE. Working great.

Would you say MBAE adds important protection to what AG already does ?
I was considering adding it to my setup.

Using Windows_Security's Safe_Admin combo suggestion of Bouncer and SecureFolders, along with EMET, Adguard, ConnectSafe DNS and also customized DNS level blocking in my OpenWrt-based router setup. Admin account with UAC on Always Notify.

This solid setup extremely light. I typically run LUA but am currently trying out Kee's Safe_Admin idea of adding SecureFolders into the mix with Admin account. So far it's a pretty nice experience.

    It's definitely overkill.

    I believe yes.

Thanks. I thought AG was enough, but I guess I'll get MBAE too then.

New setup. Trustport AV with 2 scanning engines and to protect my browser HitmanPro and HitmanPro Alert. All of this is light as a feather and no impact. Just bought my year subscription to Hitman Pro

You go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3 and change the default value of 1806 from 1 to 3.
That blocks executable download in Chrome and Internet explorer.
