It took me awhile to find a few cmd. prompts, so I thought it might be helpful to enter some command lines, & the community contribute some command line goodies: 1. dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth 2. fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\ 3. from safe mode with networking: Type net user removevirus /add <enter> Type net localgroup administrators removevirus /add <enter> Type shutdown -r <enter> reboot and choose removevirus #1 & 2 From an elevated CMD prompt. I've found helpful with Windows Updates issues #3 Can be helpful removing bugs I've used #1 & 2 on win 8.1, not sure if both are available in windows predecessors Today I searched my records & online for #1 as currently I have WU issues. #1 gets 40% done, then 3 hrs later it's still 40% completed. I'll try again & see if it completes. If you guys feel this has merit, please contribute some cmd lines.
This could turn into a hot topic. I assume another one would be for Linux terminal commands as well... just sayin'...
Used the command info in the link to repair a dism which kept failing with 'the source files could not be downloaded' error 0x800f0906 on Windows 8.1 Just copy and pasted all code into elevated cmd prompt. Rebooted and ran dism again. Worked a treat. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-corrupt-windows-image-error-0x800f0906
@stapp Thanks for that! I've had an ongiong issue with the source files not being able to be downloaded, even when I extracted the files from the Windows 10 ISO and manually specified the location with the DISM command. I followed the instructions in the link you posted, and it enabled the DISM command to finish. It seems my Windows 10 install is still heavily corrupted, but it's a start anyway.
@stapp It worked, but unfortunately it did not fix any of the issues I am having with Windows 10. Metro apps (including Windows Update) close as soon as they are opened, and sfc will not finish running.
Hi Guys, I ran dism.exe restorehealth command for 12 hours, no errors, it just gets stuck at 40% complete, and won' advance. Any suggestions on how to repair greatly appreciated
@Rico Have you tried the steps in the link stapp posted? https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/command-line-prompts.375810/#post-2487510
Thanks, an interesting command, I guess it fixes problem with DISM unable to find files, I have added it to my batch file to fix issues: Code: fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\ Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup sfc /scannow Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth sfc /scannow Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase pause
I do this for my program files, in case I ever need to reinstall: http://www.techsupportalert.com/con...al-files-your-music-your-pictures-or-whatever
Hi I did try Stapp's suggestion pasted the commands then rebooted & allowed restore health to run for more than 12 hrs. No error mesg. just sitting at 40%. ran dism online checkhealth the image is repairable. next would be restorehealth which gives 12 14 hrs at 40% no error msg.
Rico, I had that issue last year. Corrupted Store that wasn't fixed by Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. I don't recall how I fixed it, maybe this... Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
That command and switches are not for fixing anything but to regain disk space only: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn251565.aspx
Just guessing could the trouble in the store, have been eliminated by resetbase. Delete the offender hence nothing to fix problem gone? I tried "disc cleanup" with system files, this seems to be in slow motion. CCleaner then Privazer, then I'll try disc cleanup again. I would guess disc cleanup system removes the uninstallers from windows updates, this used to be available on ccleaner. Weren't the uninstallers "updates" started with $ & blue symbol, or does disc cleanup do something different to the updates?
I have a Dell Inspiron running Windows 8.1 64 something. I appear to have Rico's issue. I have been dealing with windows update issues since Nov 2014. It all seemed to start with KB3000850. I thought I found a work around and was successfully installing updates one by one in date and numerical order until a couple of months back I realized updates I thought had successfully installed had failed. As of a couple of months ago I had 82 failed updates with 24 being considered important. I am sure I am even further behind now as Microsoft pushes updates constantly. In the history it says KB3000850, KB305815, and KB3057839 were pending restart. Do not understand that. Anyway I dowloaded KB3000850 and related updates manually to try another install. Same message after rebooting "could not process the updates undoing changes do not turn off your computer". That message makes me want to hit and scream btw. Since then I have dived into online forums I have discovered my command prompt lines I have learned what a clean boot slate is I have disabled any 3rd party software such as Norton and my online crashplan (have no idea if I'll ever get crashplan running again poor thing.) I was told after running scanhealth the component store is repairsble and operation completed successfully. Restorehealth progresses to 40% within 20 minutes and then stays stuck at 40%. For 15 hours now. This is longest I have let it go. I stopped it once at 7 hours and received "error 1223 operation was incomplete because of a cancel request" I am to the point of losing hope I will ever get the update issue fixed for 8.1 and think now maybe my best course of action would be to just undo all the clean boot stuff, re-enable my crashplan backup and ensure my files are fully backed up and just upgrade to Windows 10 and hope for better luck. I have never had windows update issues before. I used to keep windows updated automatically and had no problems with them being updated. Oh I also tried another thing once when told renaming a pending file in a windows update file folder could take care of the issue. It didnt matter how many times I tried to perform the action as administrator it would not let me rename the pending.xml files to the pending_old.xml. (Found this possible solution on Dennis Faas site) apologies for length....any advice? Should I let restorehealth keep running or wave the white flag and just focus on backing up my files?
