Been messing about with the latest build most of the day I have to say they are making it worse with each build, the looks get worse & worse with each new build, everything is modern UI based, the settings app is just a mess & will be replacing control panel. It took 3 reboots just to get the settings app & start menu to open & work. More of the built in apps cant be removed at all. All I can say is no wonder they are giving it away free, no one with any sense would pay for the car crash that is windows 10.

I would like to point out that I have tried all of the various official builds as they have been released so I'm not just making a judgement on just one build. It really is a mess.

This is what I'm afraid of.. by the time they get done with it, nobody will want it... it's amazing.

And I hear rumor's circulating that the Windows team is thinking about pushing out the final coding in July, which is too soon in my opinion.

Here is the watchable source (Scroll to "Music to Code By")

    Here is the written source

I really do hope this is rumor and not an actual thing.

*Forgive me if this has already been mentioned here*

Maybe thats a good thing , people would feel at home and think they are opening IE when they are actually opening a new browser

IE is not my favorite browser but I hardly think of it (or its icon) as "infamous". Many people are used to looking for the "e" when they want to surf the web so continuing to use it is a good idea.

Since I can reinstall pretty easily, even though it's a pre release, is it stable enough to run on a production machine yet? (I tried it before and it had the option to rollback to Windows 8.1 as well, still the case)?

I installed build 10074 yesterday, I remember there were 2 possibilities an upgrade and a clean install (which would keep all your Documents, Pictures, etc, inside a folder "Windows old" for your convenience). I'm also quite sure they've stated that any recovery solution in the same disk would be deleted, and therefore suggested to use restoration images to go back to your old system.

I have no problems as I have my backup images in another HD, but I don't know whether the option of upgrading includes a rollback... It seems to me stable enough, although a test run of 2 days is probably too short to reach any conclusions.

So far I prefer Win 8 but I can't say for sure as even though it's similar, I'm still learning my way around using it. I honestly can't see any glaring differences...

An upgrade takes me an hour or two. A clean install takes me 12 minutes. I don't do upgrades anymore.

Probably should've clean installed, cause it takes an extra hour or two cleaning up the backups/updates and zeroing out free space so that I can shrink the VDI in half.

I just tried to do an upgrade to build 10074, but as with previous build the installed failed partway through. So for now, I'm stuck with build 10049.

I'd quite happily still be using Windows 7 as primary OS, but since my install of Windows 7 is really badly corrupted, and I have no idea how to fix a BSOD preventing it from booting, I'm using Windows 10 for now.

Can anyone confirm or deny a rollback? Thats my only drawback at this point.

That would be unreliable. Just make a complete system image.

I find that a bit limiting for consumers who wish to apply only security updates without receiving the new features.

To clarify, I was talking about the new Edge browser, not about Win 10. I believe Win 10 will not be any better or worse than Win 8. Yes, the browsing engine will probably be fast, but what about usability, know what I mean?

Wow, this sounds really bad, now I'm starting to worry a bit.

Yes I agree, it's a good idea to keep it familiar.

According to what I read here and in other forums, the picture is fairly clear now. Win 10 will be an OS oriented to tablets and phones. The MS priorities are 1. Mobile, 2. Cloud. And yes, the Control Panel will be gone.

Every single component is gradually being converted over to Modern/Metro/Immersive UI, essentially.

I don't know how you do it, you must have a powerful machine (provided that has something to do with it...), my clean install took the best part of an hour.

I'm still a bit ambivalent about assessing Win 10, I found Win 8 quite exciting compared to Vista and Win 7 when it first came out. One thing I definitely don't like is the folders design and colours. Metro haters seem to have won the battle, and that seems to be the big change so far. Maybe some people can enlighten me about what changes under the hood occurred...
