Artoor, of all the partitions created during a Microsoft build, your SYSTEM partition (usually C:\) and the Microsoft System Reserved Partition are the most dynamic. While the SRP usually doesn't change very much... it does change thanks to some strange and unnatural Microsoft System Updates that occur periodically. If your system includes a SRP, I would include it in your imaging.
No idea, I didn't know that you'd inserted the code when you installed to G. My guess was just a guess...
Hey guys, I finally installed the MR boot menu. My question is how often do you need to update the boot menu? And, how do you update it? (I did set my computer to wait 5 seconds for the boot menu.) Do you have to update it every time there is a new update to MR?
IF there is an update to the RE then you would update the boot menu. All you have to do is repeat what you did to put it there the first time.
Please forgive my ignorance....What is RE? (I assume that when there is an update to MR, you look at the parts that were updated.)
PE (RE is Recovery Environment based on the Windows PE which can be PE3 or 4 or 5) There may be an update to Reflect but nothings changed RE: the PE You should still recreate your RM (Recovery Media = CD/DVD or USB stick/flash/pendrive) when there's an RU (Reflect upgrade/update).
Hi Alex Sorry I didn't go into more detail at the time. Was under the gun time wise. Glad you have it straight now. Pete
Hi Alex Whilst nothing changes the RE I would always update it when a new version of Macrium is out as whilst the base PE may not change some of the Macrium functionality will have changed and it is always best to have the latest. SAme for the RM...I usually delete the old and burn a new copy...on rerecordable media...of course... Baldrick
Hey Alex, I couldn't resist poking a bit of fun at all the acronyms that float around everywhere these days. But I was also trying to help If you simply have a standard which says: when there's a Reflect update, rebuild and create a new RM. That way you won't miss a possibly critical PE update. J
Hello, A new update has been released, version 6.0.611: Download Page: http://www.macrium.com/Download.aspx?type=home Release Notes: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/v6.0.611/details6.0.611.htm
Hi Tony I use both. The IR PReboot comes up first, and then the windows boot manager. It all works very well together. Also note you don't have to disable preboot when you image. Pete
Hello, A new update has been released, version 6.0.617: Download Page: http://www.macrium.com/Download.aspx?type=home Release Notes: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/v6.0.617/details6.0.617.htm
How long has the free page listed Please note: Version 6 of Macrium Reflect Free will be available soon I think maybe they should remove the notice or at least give an approx date.
Tgell... in POST #2140, we quickly go over the features of the planned v6 FREE and it's really no more than v5 FREE. It really doesn't matter when it becomes available.
Thanks for that info TheRollbackFrog. V5 free works fine for me so I guess I will stick with it even when V6 comes out.
Maybe the speed and compression improved in V6. I would always stick to a newer version, assuming its support of new hardware will be better.
Thanks for the pointers. I'll look into running both, although from what I've been reading here, Macrium seems good enough to run on its own.
The COUPON Frog here... 20% OFF New Macrium Licenses (not upgrades) until 31May. Code: 55W-EM7-QFU (use at CheckOut)
Hi Tony You are correct, but I still like having IR because, thru screw ups I've found my self with only old images. It's nice to be able to restore them and come current with IR. Might only need it occasionally but when you do. Also I don't find my second snapshot which is very stripped down adds much to imaging time.
Can anybody tell me please, is it possible to have two Windows 8.1 images and restore both to different partitions and then dual boot between them on a UEFI system? IF so I presume that both cannot include the FAT32 partition, so the backup made using the Menu item 'Backup Windows' is unlikely to be correct for both, so would the second image be just a Backup Partition?
