Macrium Reflect

Artoor, of all the partitions created during a Microsoft build, your SYSTEM partition (usually C:\) and the Microsoft System Reserved Partition are the most dynamic. While the SRP usually doesn't change very much... it does change thanks to some strange and unnatural Microsoft System Updates that occur periodically.

If your system includes a SRP, I would include it in your imaging.

Hey guys, I finally installed the MR boot menu. My question is how often do you need to update the boot menu? And, how do you update it? (I did set my computer to wait 5 seconds for the boot menu.) Do you have to update it every time there is a new update to MR?

 

Please forgive my ignorance....What is RE? (I assume that when there is an update to MR, you look at the parts that were updated.)

 

PE (RE is Recovery Environment based on the Windows PE which can be PE3 or 4 or 5)

There may be an update to Reflect but nothings changed RE: the PE

You should still recreate your RM (Recovery Media = CD/DVD or USB stick/flash/pendrive) when there's an RU (Reflect upgrade/update).

Whilst nothing changes the RE I would always update it when a new version of Macrium is out as whilst the base PE may not change some of the Macrium functionality will have changed and it is always best to have the latest. SAme for the RM...I usually delete the old and burn a new copy...on rerecordable media...of course...

But I was also trying to help

If you simply have a standard which says: when there's a Reflect update, rebuild and create a new RM.
That way you won't miss a possibly critical PE update.

I think maybe they should remove the notice or at least give an approx date.

 

Tgell... in POST #2140, we quickly go over the features of the planned v6 FREE and it's really no more than v5 FREE. It really doesn't matter when it becomes available.

 

Thanks for that info TheRollbackFrog. V5 free works fine for me so I guess I will stick with it even when V6 comes out.

 

Maybe the speed and compression improved in V6. I would always stick to a newer version, assuming its support of new hardware will be better.

Can anybody tell me please, is it possible to have two Windows 8.1 images and restore both to different partitions and then dual boot between them on a UEFI system?
IF so I presume that both cannot include the FAT32 partition, so the backup made using the Menu item 'Backup Windows' is unlikely to be correct for both, so would the second image be just a Backup Partition?
