    How foolproof is disabling the mic within BIOS? The webcam I can tape over easily but the mic not so much. I'm not sure of the possibility of some super sophisticated malware being able to activate the microphone even though the OS itself doesn't see it.

    Disable it physically, the wires to the webcam is usually a ribbon cable easily disconnected from the hardware.
