I just wiped the Win8 partitions with zeroes and used Diskpart "clean". The Win8.1 (UEFI mode) images were restored. The Rollback Home screen was seen, then Win8 loaded normally. I could restore my snapshots. It seems Win8.1 works, unless I'm doing something wrong.
I'll join you. Froggie's method of having phylock first in Upper Filters seems to be the most reliable.
Fresh Win7 system (MBR) (SRP and Win7 partitions) Rollback installed 4 snaps taken IFW installed Upper Filters checked. OK. (there were 3 Upper Filter entries) Another 4 snaps taken restarted twice IFW backup ("Backup Unused Sectors") of the 2 partitions. NOT an Entire Drive image as I didn't want to backup 600 GB of Unallocated Free Space Both partitions wiped with zeroes Diskpart "clean" IFW restore (from TBWinRE) of both partitions (together) with AUTO First Track Sectors (it is already set as a default for a multi-partition restore). No Validates. Log results to File. Nothing else in Restore Options. Rollback Home screen Win7 loaded All snaps present and they work It looks good.
My apologies, but could you explain this to the novice? Are you saying that you have figured out how to protect or save your HD if you use RollbackRX and you have some type of catastrophic error? Are you saying that IFW will work and that we don't have to wait for their imaging program?
Cool... This means that IFW changed something after v. 2.60 which broke this "feature", and in v. 2.95 it was changed back to the old behavior so Froggie's method works again. I just reread Froggie's old "RBRX luvs IFW" tutorial (since the old HDS forum is gone, it should be posted here on Wilders). Is the following still true? Cheers manolito
I checked whether Differential images work. A differential image was created. It was 36 MiB. (I had to double the PHYLock RAM Cache after receiving a warning) Same process as above. Partitions wiped. Diskpart "clean". IFW restore of the Differential image. Rollback Home screen Win7 loaded with changes made prior to creating the Differential image. All snaps present and they work
I didn't "CLEAR the “Use Disk Storage” CheckBox…" I only had to change the RAM Cache Size when creating a Differential. I changed it from 8192 to 16000.
Mab, the only reason for that recommendation was to try and keep the FileSystem inconsistencies to a minimum. If PHYLOCK used RAM instead of disk space for its temporary Windows changes while the image was in progress, the FileSystem wouldn't be as muddled when you did a restart. The "muddling" isn't really a large issue as ChkDsk can repair the muddle pretty easily if its detected. Using IFW's DEFAULTs should be just fine... That document needs to be updated for the current user community... it's relevance is a bit long in the tooth at the moment.
Alex, I created a document many moons ago pertaining to this very scenario. The whole thing died along the way (changes in Rollback, changes in "Image For Windows"). In the meantime it appears to have come back to life... but it needs to be carefully vetted (W7 and W8.x) before we say... "It's HERE!" but it looks very promising. The process will still include a HOT (LIVE Windows), RAW (All Sector, Forensic, All unused sectors included, etc.) image which will be larger than the typical "used sector" image ('cause it will image the entire partition, not just the used part) but a simple restore of the Rollback RX protected partitions will bring the system ALIVE once again with your most recent system as well as Rollback and all its snapshots. As I vet this approach, I'll keep the group informed using a different Thread titled to exactly what we're doing... stay tuned!
EXCELLENT Brian, thank you! As far as UpperFilters are concerned, at any given time, depending on what the user has installed, there may even be more entries. The KEY is that PHYLOCK has to be prior to SHIELD in that driver list, and preferrably 1st to eliminate any Rollback imnterference. Those UpperFilter REGISTRY keys are weird in name and what I need to find out is if they're consistent among versions of the Windows operating system. If they are, then a document similar to before will be forth coming. Thanks again for all your help with this!
Stick with us, PV... it'll hopefully get cleared up pretty soon. In essence the old system works once again with slightly different instructions. I'll start a new thread and summarize there, and we'll be vetting the "system" and reporting accordingly.
Et al... if possible I would like to continue this discussion in the following THREAD just created. It's much more topical for the work we are doing at the moment... thanks!
Sounds like you guys have been busy with Drive Cloner's Version 6! That's good to hear Try to remember to, you can always post in our forums. That way Sam can see this info as well, would be very useful!
It has come in handy in re-constructing Rollback RX configurations for testing purposes... definitely better then starting from scratch every time. I will pop by and say HELLO...
That's good to hear, do you find that Jira has been a good tool to communicate with Andrew? I know it was a bit debated before we got Jira, but I'm trying to get feedback to see if it's worth using again for future development projects.
I think the tool is fine... the problem seems to be the participants Other than Sam "recording" the original BETA01 comments for Andrew, so far the only testers interacting are Brian_K and myself... everybody else is eerily quiet, incl. Andrew. I'll give Andrew the benefit of the doubt... hopefully he's burning the midnight oil trying to solve some of the BETA01 probs encountered, but so far nothing from other BETA02 participants (are there more than just Brian_K and myself ). It would be nice if other participants would be testing away so that other issues may be discovered.
Kurtis, Although I have been a DC6 beta-tester and registered on Jira, I do not receive any notifications whatsoever re new Jira posts. What gives with that? pv
Hey pv, Might have been something you opted out of when you signed up. When you log in can you see the activity stream? Cheers,
Activity stream? If you mean the posts, then yes. I didn't knowingly opt out of anything when I registered.
Yeah, it's similar to any feed showing recent updates. Yeah, I'm imagining it might have been by mistake. Only reason I suspect that is that everyone else is receiving notifications (as far as I know)
